I have been using Windows 8 since it was released with no problems. It actually improved my old laptops performance.

Recently i updated to 8.1 through the MS store and since then the laptop has been freezing on reboots and when waking up from extended sleep. If i put the computer to sleep and wake it up it boots just fine, but if it is asleep for an hour or so it will freeze on the splash screen. The little swirling orbs will rotate then suddenly lock and the only way to get it out is to hold the power down and do a hard reboot.

Bios is the Most current i can get from HP
Turned of FASTboot (helped with shutdowns but not with sleep)
Have updated all the drivers as far as i can tell.

I have found other people with similar problems but their solutions have been fast boot which has not helped me
