Hi,

Can anybody good with hardware let me know if this is the right choice or if I am making a mistake regarding either component choice or compatibility? I use the PC to play high end PC games like BF, COD and RTS games (SC2, SUP2 + Others that look awesome)

Everything seems ok to me so far :)

My current PC
Intel Core 2 Quad Q660
Mobo: p5N-d
GFX: GTX 550 TI
RAM: 4X 2GB = 8GB
700 WATT Power Supply
Decent case - not worried about overheating (Coolermaster HAF)

I am looking to replace the CPU, GPU and Motherboard (due to the CPU not being compatible with P5N-D)

My choice
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core
GPU: Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5
Mobo: Asus Z87-A USB 3.0 Motherboard

Does that look like a good choice, and nothing sticks out regarding compatibility? I am running Windows 8.1 at the moment and intend to use my current installation and SSD + Hard Disks in the new kit

Thanks! Tom

If your mobo and CPU match, you will probably be OK. You should check your RAM, though, because a lot of the time, an upgrade of mobo and CPU will also require the RAM to be upgraded.

I went to Asus and found the manual, which should answer your questions: http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax

Also, go here for more info. Z87-A - Motherboards - ASUS

Hope this helps.

My warning is for your Power-Supply. I had a 850 watts from Antec on my Gaming PC quad-processor 9600. Top quality power-supply. Then after two years would not boot. I changed it for another 850 watts but low quality. The braker in the house burned. I then realised my pc needed a 1200 watts power supply and my Antec was probably 100% loaded all the time during 2 years.

Some UPS gives you the real watts load of your Desktop.

Finally, with Windows 8.1 I give good better result with mine.
