Access is denied in Program Files

Hey guys, I really need some help with this. For some reason I cannot do anything in my Program Files for one of my hard drives. My C drive seems to be fine, as well as my 2 other drives. But in my F drive, Ive broken down the program files into a normal one and x86 one. I can basically access every other folder expect the Program Files in F drive. Program Files (x86) in the same drive works perfectly fine. Everytime i try to add a new folder or delete anything in my Program Files folder it says destination folder access denied and i need permission.

Ive tried fiddling with all the UAC and permissions but nothing seems to work.I even tried the command prompt :
"4. To Take Ownership of a Folder or Drive in a Command Prompt
NOTE: This command will take ownership of the folder or drive, and all files and subfolders in the folder or drive."

method but it says Access is Denied in my command prompt.

I will really appreciate any assistance as this is really starting to annoy me. I am also not very proficient with this matters so please bare with me. Thanks in advance :)

Are these programs that you deliberately installed to that drive, or does the drive have it's own OS on it? If it does, you may not be able to get to it. If you right click on it and go to Security Options, it will show a user which is a string of numbers. You have to remove that user, and set the Owner to Administrators. Sometimes you can't get rid of that "numbered" user.

Did you use an Admin Command Prompt?

Yes those were programs that I deliberately installed to that drive like my anti-virus as well as Microsoft Office stuff. When i right click on it and go to Security it shows a group of users with 4 users there. My administrator is there as well.

I do not see the user with string numbers.. I tried using Admin Command Prompt but it did say access is denied and i do not know what else to try..

Odd, but the programs RUN that are on that drive.

There should be a "Take Ownership" that appears when you press SHIFT while right clicking on the Program Files folder. Try that, if you have't already.

I dont understand why this happens sometimes, sometimes a drive develops extra security.

And you can't COPY the folders or files out? Depending on what you are trying to do, you can use "Unlocker" to try to move or copy them:

Download Unlocker - MajorGeeks

Be Careful though, it has a malicious toolbar attached to the installer, make sure you choose "Advanced Install" and uncheck all of the toolbar boxes.

Thanks for the replies mate! Alas, Ive already tried the take ownership AND unlocker method.. Still doesnt work. Its so strange though, every other folder/file in my 4 other drives work except this folder called Program files in my F drive. My Program files (x86) works perfectly. Im really lost..it seems as if ive tried everything. I tried deleting a folder i had inside and it said "You require permission from XXX/YYYYY to make changes to this folder". I went through the list of potential accounts and that name wasnt even there.

As one of the permissions from "Trusted Installer"?

I think that runs as a service, maybe it can be shut off while you access files in there.

Then you should be able to remove the user, don't understand why it is being so stubborn. Try selecting "Deny" in the Permissions Windows for it, then you should be able to remove it as a user for the folder.

Im sorry, but where do I change this? I clicked security for the Program Files and all the options are greyed out. Meaning i couldnt deny or allow anything for all 4 of the users available there..

Now that IS unusual, you cannot change any of the settings? You have to get into "Advanced Settings" - There should be a button on the lower right of the Security Box.

I am getting the same thing here in my varied and frustrated attempts at deleting a text file within my C:\Program Files folder.

Have you tried this:

That may be it, the folder may have been created under a non administrator account.

I think we tried that, he said he was prevented from changing ownership.

@Balls
Does the specific user have "Full control"?

Greyed out Permissions indicate that the Permissions are coming from a higher level.
Try moving back up the directory structure until your Permissions change to black.
