Done a clean install of Windows 8.1 and noticed a repeated event in the event log Administrative Events
"Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070002"
Does any know what this event means, google doesn't show anything!

Clean install done using the generic Windows 8.1 License Key and Activated with my upgrade Key.

Windows shows that it is Activated and no issues otherwise, just interested if anybody else has found this event in the event log

Cheers

Hi Shawn

Thanks for the reply, no not having any issues with the store, don't really use it that much. When I try the suggested it's asking me to Switch to Microsoft account on this machine, which I don't really want to do as I prefer to use a local account on my Laptop/PC.
If this event is just related to the Windows Store then it won't really concern to me that much.
Just wasn't sure if it was a Windows License Key issue, since Windows is activated and not causing any issues, I would assume it's nothing for me to worry about.

Thanks again

Ah, ok. You being signed in to Windows 8 with a local account would be why you get the error since you need to be signed in to a Microsoft account to be able to install anything from the Store.

Happens on windows 8.1 Update 1.

After a clean install of windows 8.1.1 using the ISO from Technet I started getting the same message as the OP, albeit a different result code, the first time I start my machine in the morning:

Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses. Result code 0x80070490

I use a Microsoft account and I have synced by Modern apps many times manually. Running the scheduled task manually will also produce the same error. I disabled the scheduled task that runs the sync and I'll see if it shows up tomorrow. Btw, the Store seems to be working fine.

Just wondering if any other 8.1.1 users are seeing this error in their event log? I read somewhere that the MS Store will be changed for 8.1.1 so I wonder if the 'new' store will stop these messages.

The Scheduled Task appears under Microsoft/Windows/WS and is called WSRefreshBannedAppsListTask

streetwolf - did that stop the "Windows Store failed to sync machine licenses" error? I am getting this on my pc's also . I don't use the Windows Store apps much - and I tried to sync them and screwed up my Start Screen layout and icons. My error id code 512 Store Licensing. Would like to stop it. (0x80070490)

Disabling the task WSRefreshBannedAppsListTaskdid stopped the licensing error message. The store doesn't seem to be affected by this at all.

streetwolf,

Did you already try what I posted above to sync the Store license to see if that may have helped any before disabling the task?

If so, then I may need to add that to the tutorial as well.

I synced it manually many times and it always said it was successful but didn't stop the error message.

Why a task that evidently looks for banned apps would be the culprit is strange since there are other tasks that are run for syncing licenses.

IMO there is more to this than meets the eye.

I'm embarrassed to ask, but how do you enable it should you decide to do so after it is disabled? I can't seem to do it. Task Scheduler shows only active tasks and I don't find a way to view one that was disabled.

If you were able to disable it you should be able to enable it the same way. Under the menu option view make sure show hidden tasks is checked. Could also be you need to have admin authority.
