Solved Pin Icon missing windows 8.1

After updating to windows 8.1 I noticed that the pin icon is missing. Could someone please post (if there is) another way to pin a web site to the metro screen other than using that Icon

You could use the method below to pin websites to your Start screen.
Another option, would be to create a website shortcut that you could "Pin to Start".

That is true in ie 10 however when I upgraded to windows 8.1 it installed ie11 which does not appear to have that option.

If you right click the star, you'll get the pin icon( top right).

BTW is the a way of have a notification of when a site is update on the tile as was possible in iE10
