Solved Upgraded to 8.1 and got new event log error?

I think I got this Event Log error after I upgraded to 8.1 but I' not sure. Anyway, when I go to event viewer I get a message that says "One or more logs in the query have errors" and then is says the Log that it cannot find is "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic". I have looked and the log does not exist and OF COURSE when I try to cheat the system and create the log it does not like the "/" in the name! Any ideas on what the heck is going on and how I can tell W8.1 to create the log would be appreciated.

nope ,not me ,works fine for me ,i updated to 8.1 the other day .if you backup the registry and delete the address suggested in the sites listed in this thread you should be ok
or you could try System file checker it might fix it
open elevated command prompt and run, sfc /scannow

IF i delete that key is it safe ???

Hello again TonyB,

I'm going to stick my neck out on this a bit and say that it is safe to delete if done with proper preparation. Just make sure you export the registry entry before you make the change so it can be restored if needed. Moreover, I just did a clean install and I do not even have that entry so it must not be an absolute requirement. Good luck with your decision and I hope you understand how to properly delete/restore a registry entry.

My Ghod is this the same issue?

Yep, just make sure to Export the Key BEFORE you delete it.

I suggested, searching for the DLL file that is being referred to, if it is missing.

Is this issue causing other Windows Problems?

I ran "scf /scannow" from an elevated Command Prompt and it did not find and errors.

Since I think the Query Error that some of us are getting is just a missing log file could one of you guys that do not have the problem look in Windows\System32\winevt\Logs and see if the
"Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic.evtx" file is there or at least some .evtx log file that is close to that name. If I could get a copy of that log file I'll see if I can make the Query Error go away.

Hi Ken429,

At least three people have recommended a registry fix that you and TonyB are avoiding. The error you are getting is because you have an invalid registry entry that points to a file that doesn't exist. I do not have that invalid entry. I think it is either time for you to take action or just live with the log. Your latest request will get you no further to a solution than you are right now. Good luck as this will be my final response to your issue.

Sorry for the double post! I didn't hit the last button.

Ok, Ok, I deleted the Registry Entry and the error went away. I guess I am too curious - why only some of us got the "erroneous" entry. Could it be that I have a Cannon MX870 multi-printer, scanner, fax connected to the system? But I'll move on.

Good for you! That erroneous entry is/was obviously incorporated into the Win 8.1 upgrade process for "some" but not all. Why? Who knows? Anyway, you finally made the commitment, deleted the entry, and it worked for you. Hopefully, you courage to give it a try will inspire others to follow your lead... Nice job!
