Hi TonyB,

I do not have this issue because I did a clean install of 8.1; however, I did google your issue and it appears that many are having the same issue after going through the upgrade to 8.1 process. With tha said, I did find this fix that appears to have worked for some but not all and I am only (hesitantly) providing this link for your reference and consideration:

Error in Event Viewer (DxpTaskRingtone) after upgrading to - Microsoft Community

If you decide to try the above, please make sure you do so with due diligence. Good luck.

Unfortunately, those are all question I cannot answer so you have two options at this point IMHO:

1. Since many are having this issue after upgrading, just sit tight and wait for a fix from MS.
2. Wait for another forum member to respond with a better alternative fix.

Good luck.

Ringtone, is this a Windows 8 Phone?

If this error does not affect how the system runs, it can be ignored. It seems to me, that some program that has to do with Ringtones, is missing one of the WAV or AIFF files it needs. Or maybe the files a Windows Phone needs are somehow built into Windows 8, maybe this would be needed if you connect a Phone to your system using Bluetooth. When I connect my iPhone to Windows 7, it moves some files over, I can use a Keypad on the laptop to make a phone call, and then it uses the Laptop Mike and Speaker for Audio.

However, the fix only requires you to delete a registry key, all you have to do is Export the Key before you delete it, if you are not sure about it. Then you can merge it back in if you need it.

Anyway, it is totally normal for your Event Viewer to have errors in it, this does not mean the system will not run, I have about 59 thousand Bonjour Errors in mine, and Bonjour works.

I have an issue where my system either locks up or shuts down randomly, and there are NO event logs for that, other than "Dirty Shutdown", so if your system is behaving like it should, you can just ignore it.

This explains what the DLL file is that is bringing up the error, basically it is a Dynamic Link Library containing Characters for a Phone Keypad:

Windows 8 DLL File Information - DXPTaskRingtone.dll

If that file is missing from Windows 8.1, you can probably download it from a DLL repository, they are all over the net.
