Single Event Viewer error

I have upgraded to Windows 8.1 and my system runs well. I have just ONE single error in the event viewer that pops up occasionally and I cannot find a solution. There are many people on 8.1 receiving this same error so if someone could share a light on it and provide a fix I would be most grateful :)

Event id 3036

The parameter is incorrect. (HRESULT : 0x80070057) (0x80070057)

Rebuilding the search index doesn't fix it. Can it be removed from search if it's a search problem?

Event id 3036 is not an error, it's a warning. Warnings occur all the time, and are often due to normal circumstances that simply can't be controlled.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey, you only have ONE error or warning? I have 59,000 Bonjour warnings/errors in my event list, and that's just from the last month, I have to keep deleting my system logs.

Every day you'll have at least a few errors or warnings, if your system still boots and runs I would not worry.

If that one error is all you got, consider yourself lucky!

Lol - Fnally, I don't have any Event Warnings, Errors or Critical Items on my desktop after installing 8.1 - but I have 3 on my laptop I can't seem to get rid of......drives me nuts! Guess we're too particular, Sayjimwoo! We would probably be more sane if we ignored them like XweAponX.

LOL yeah, drove me crazy. I am too OCD on my rig. Not always a good thing though. By the way, what are the errors?

Right now I have 3 - this is on my Sony Vaio T13124CXS Touchscreen Laptop.

The 1st pertains to touchscreen, I think, it's: Event 264 A multitouch device reported inconsistent contact information...however touchscreen and everything else work ok.

The 2nd is Event 126 (8) pertains to Vaio Message Center crash - again, Message Center works ok.

The 3rd is Event 1002 (101) wwahost.exe stopped interacting - this refers in the description to YahooInc.Yahoo Mail. Not sure about this - I only have desktop Yahoo Mail, nothing in Metro.

None of them seem to be affecting operation of 8.1, so I probably should be like XweAponX and ignore them. Guess I'm too involved with the details.

On my desktop. I'm clean except once in a while after boot, I get Event 10010 DCOM error. This is intermittent tho.

If it is the exact same error as I posted at the top of the thread then this fixed it for me.
Open up a command prompt and paste this line into it -

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search\DefaultExcludedPaths" /v "winrt://{S-1-5-21-275644573-715913347-3722770935-1001}/" /t REG_SZ /d "winrt://{S-1-5-21-275644573-715913347-3722770935-1001}/" /f

Then press enter and all should be well.
It just adds a line to the registry that excludes it from the search path and you no longer get the error.
If you ever need to remove it, just locate the line in the registry and delete it :)

It worked for me. Strange thing though, I recently reinstalled Windows 8.1 again cos I bought a new SSD and the error never came back after my format, but hey if it does I will just add this registry line in again.

Thanks for the quick reply,
However simply copying the command gives 'cannot find the specified path' error.
I created the rest of the path via regedit. In the DefaultExcludedPaths key, what value type & Value Data do I need?
Sorry, I can't exactly follow your command.

Thanks, Verstiburger.

Sorry I missed something at the beginning of the line, add this in CMD prompt using admin privilages

BUT......I have left the 2 sets of brackets empty to put your own two sets of codes in from your "event viewer error" they could be different to mine.

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search\DefaultExcludedPaths" /v "winrt://{}/" /t REG_SZ /d "winrt://{}/" /f

This will be 100% successful. I just tried it now.

Thanks heaps for your help Sayjimwoo.
However- despite having the exclusion, exactly as you've described, I was still getting a warning & a stuck SearchIndexer.exe- for a file that should have been excluded!

So here's what I ended up doing to fix my problem!

Hi All,

I wanted to offer my solution for the problem, for any future reference.

Thanks to this thread-
http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/33902-single-event-viewer-error-new-post.html

I found where my SearchIndexer.exe was stopping & throwing warnings.
However it continued to do so even with the exceptions added to the registry.

So, my fix. Tedious though it was.
I removed everything but 'Start Menu' & my Personal User folder from my Included Locations.
Rebuild Index. Index get stuck around 14,000 files.
Removed the User folder, Index completed.
Re-Added about half of the user folders, Index Completed.
Added the Downloads folder- Index got stuck again!

So I knew it was a file within my Downloads that was making the Indexer sit & spin its wheels.
I was pretty frustrated by this point- I could have dug down further to find more precisely what it was, but instead I moved or deleted everything that was currently in Downloads.
Lo and Behold, Index Completed!

So- In essence- break down your 'Included Locations' until you find your problem file!

Good Luck!

Errors in the Event Viewer are just something you gotta live with with Windows, from Windows 2000 to 8.1. If you got none, be happy with that, cos you'll get something and soon.

I've had totally fresh installs come up with errors, sometimes they can be fixed, sometimes not. Besides, I know which ones I have to really worry about, and I got none of those.

Also, there are plenty of errors that will pop up and MS has no information on the error number, there are hundreds like that.

Sorry for late response. My error did return, hence it also not being a fix for you. After a lot of research I found this to finally remove the error. It looks like you have solved it for yourself anyway.

My fix (the code may be different to yours) was to add this line to the registry using command prompt.
It was "PreventIndexingCertainPaths" which was the key to the fix -

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search\PreventIndexingCertainPaths" /v "winrt://{S-1-5-21-3841166914-161026619-2867130341-1001}/" /t REG_SZ /d "winrt://{S-1-5-21-3841166914-161026619-2867130341-1001}/" /f

The error never came back, indexing now ignores it.
