Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center (64-bit)

Audio CDs are usually in WAV format and no special codecs are needed. If the CD is specially coded you will need to hunt down the codecs. There are audio and video codec packages available for download - just search for them.

You may have a DATA CD - if so, you can just copy the files, no need to 'rip'.

Still, once copied, if you can't play them back you need to find the proper codecs for WMP or try an alternate player.

If you look in Windows file explorer at the CD/DVD drive, if the drive shows "Audio CD" and CDFS file system you have a true audio CD. If you open the drive the tracks will appear as files with a CDA extension.

If you see anything else you probably have a data disk with music files stored on it as regular files - not CD tracks.

I did this and renamed the music folder too. Still no luck. I have been using the VLC media player but they all work EXCEPT the Microsoft crap. I have the same problem with another machine using a Lenovo board. All of the problems I have had with Win8 have reverted to the operating system, NOT the hardware.
