Hi,

i'm looking a bit of advice if anyone could please help me?

I have an old Dell Latitude 100l laptop, with XP installed. I use it for University work. Now I've was able to download from Uni a copy of Windows 8.1, as an ISO image onto a DVD disc.

When i try and boot to the disc, it says "loading files"........and after a while i just get a black screen.

Is this because I cannot load Windows 8.1 onto my Dell laptop?

http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/products/latit/100L_spec.pdf this is the spec of my laptop. I appreciate its old, but i use it just basically for doing my Uni assignments so don't really want to purchase a new laptop at this time (being a student! :) )

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I would suggest running the Windows 8 upgrade assistant to see if your system meets the minimum specs. Dell only supports Windows 2000 and XP on this machine so some hardware drivers may not be available (from other than Dell) and that can be a major stumbling block as Dell tended to use some proprietary hardware.

The 1GB MAXIMUM memory is going to be an issue, that is insufficient for Windows 8 (or even Windows 7).
