Full screen flash video very poor quality

Whenever I go full screen on youtube it looks terrible. I have searched and searched and have no idea how to fix this. Can't even find someone with a similar problem.

Blurry and 256 colours. Something similar happens to the desktop when I leave fullscreen from VLC or VirtualBox. That makes sense though, I guess this is some metro related memory saving process. Anyone got any ideas how I could sort this out?

  1. It's only as good as what the uploaders use to upload. Certain video will have multiple modes to view,
look on the bottom right corner to switch mode: 360p, 480p, 720p or 1080p
  2. Also depends on how good & resolution your video card supports.

Hi topgundcp,

Thanks for your suggestions, I posted a couple of images of the same video, both at 1080p resolution. If you look you can see the non fullscreen version and the fullscreen versions look totally different. The fullscreen version looks saturated. Like it's being rendered with 256 colours.

I downloaded the same video via jdownloader and ran it fullscreen through VLC and it doesn't look saturated. It looks like a fullscreen 1080p video. So this isn't a video card issue. It's with fullscreen flash video issue.

The fullscreen flash/youtube version through firefox however has the same saturated look as you see on the desktop for a few seconds when you return to it from a metro app. My guess is that somehow Windows is getting the message that something has gone fullscreen, so it reduces display quality. This is what's puzzling me.

If you are logged in, you should have access to the HD button. Try toggling that. But he's right, if the user uploaded a crappy video, thats what you'll see.

No, that ain't right.

That IS a 1080 source, looks fine on my system with my cheap Video card, but it kind of stalls.

If you have an nVidia card, you can tell the card how to handle 3D video, either let nVidia do it, or let each app do it.

Also, and this is very important, are you using the Tile version of IE or Chrome to view this, or the Desktop version of the browsers? Because IE 10 and 11 on 8 and 8,1 have some very poor graphics qualities, when used as TILE.

I'm using desktop firefox. Same thing happens With desktop chrome. I never thought until now to check in IE, it looks bad even when it's not full screen. No idea what happens with the metro versions of the browsers, I don't use any metro software.

Just went to look in Device Manager and there's no video device listen under 'sound, video and game controllers', this is weird as I installed the drivers as avaliable from the manufacturer website. Gonna try reinstalling them and see what happens

It would be listed under Display Devices, but you cant control it from there, you have to Right Click on the Desktop and there shoudl be a "Control Panel:" for whatever video Device you have, nVidia OR AMD/ATI.

It's pretty much the same as nVidia, try Colour Enhancements and Resolutions. There Is also a Scaling feature in there, and Windows 8.1 takes this over, it would be better to let the App handle it.

And there are a few more tweeks here

videotweek.png

And finally, click on that link on the left side that says "Calibrate Color".

I forget all that's in that Intel Panel, you just have to go through it with a fine toothed comb until you find something.

If this 'Adapter" is am Integrated Video Car,d there may not be much you can do - Unless you can increase the amount of Video Ram in the BIOS. I have mine set at "max DVMT" in Bios, and the Aperture Size at 256 MB and 256 max Ram allotted for the Video.

See if you can find "Video Overlay" settings in the Control Panel app.

Thanks, I'll have a look at these suggestions this evening.

I think this is still a flash/browser issue, though. Full screen AVI/MKV video looks fine.

You need to start your own topic. Metro/Start runs off of Javascript, ActiveX & Html5. If you are going to view Youtube videos and the such, view them from the Desktop, not from the Metro apps.

You can also set Youtube up to use html5 instead of Flash. Also keep in mind that not every video is going to be top quality. It all depends on who shot the video, what device they used to shoot the video with, or if the video is one that was copied off of say a recording or ripped from a prior youtube video.

Thanks, I do however watch them from the desktop and not from the Metro apps. I googled my problem and came out on this forum :)

I don't think it has to do with the quality from the video, the quality is perfect when it's small but when you use full screen then somehow the colors are washed up and it's really bad to watch ;(

It has the same problem with every YouTube movie, so also the Full HD 1080 movie trailers.
