I doubt that since the RTM version has already been released to MSDN and Technet subscribers and 8.1 is due to be released to the public next week.

Retired in 2015 after working in the tech industry for 41 years. First 10 years as a Technician, the rest as a programmer/software engineer. After 1 year of retirement, I was bored so went back to work as a Robotic Process Automation Consultant. Retired for 3rd (and final) time in 2019.
I'm with Strollin, I don't think that's likely to happen, for the very reasons he listed.

I would tend to agree, but I am not nuts, crazy maybe, but there was an article that stated there would be another preview in about a week. That was about 2 or three days ago.

Btw that article was not here.

There will be an evaluation version

There is currently an evaluation version for Windows 8. When Windows 8.1 is released in a couple weeks, an evaluation version of that will be available. That's what I would wait for.

I don,t think i'll be able to update to 8.1 ?
I think it's being installed through Windows store and apart from the fact the Store has 1000's of pointless apps

It wont even load since i installed all the updates (It Worked before i installed from windows update)

It was a fresh install to an SSD

Well i think things must have changed recently,
from reading i thought is was a free upgrade through the Windows Store,
Just another way to fleece us out of our coffers eh?

Buy Windows 8.1 - Microsoft Store

Unless i'm reading it wrong, If you have Windows 8 already you get free upgrade
If your on Windows 7/Vista/XP you will need a Full Version??

Can someone clarify please?? ...

It is a free upgrade though the store for anyone running a legally activated version of Windows 8. If your running Windows 7 or earlier you'll have to pay for the upgrade just like you would to upgrade to Windows 8. If your running 7 or earlier you won't have store access anyway. If you want install media to do a clean install you'll also have to buy it.

There is an evaluation version of Windows 8. It's here...
Download Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation

I think people are mixing up Evaluation software, designed to help people evaluate released versions of software, before deciding whether to buy it, with Preview versions which are essentially test versions of software that hasn't been finished yet.

In both cases they may have a standard licence key and expire after a certain number of days, but they don't have the same purpose.

Of course I know that windows 8.1. preview is out, maybe the the writer mistyped and meant 8.1 not 8. Anyway I will wait and see what happens after 8.1 is released. As for me I will not be upgrading from the store unless it allows a custom install option. I do not want to upgrade current hp oem image. I prefer to custom install and create one partition.

I tried build 9471 and noticed it would not upgrade a gpt partiton anyway, so I deleted all partitons with custom option and it created an mbr partition, which is what I prefer anyway.

No he got it right - he meant that once Windows 8.1 is released next week (or soon after) there will be an evaluation version for people to try for a limited number of days, so they can decide if they want to buy it.

In the same way there's currently an evaluation version of Windows 8 at present, and evaluation versions of other released software such as Office and even Windows 7. But it will be an evaluation version of the final product, not a test version like the Preview.

Here try this:

The Preview expires in January. The RTM bits have already been released and you will be able to download the final version as an evaluation in about two weeks. Just wait...

I do not beleive he is taliking about windows 8, not on the 4th of October 2013. I am still convinced that ther will be another release for evaluation of 8.1. I call it a second preview, he calls it a time limited evaluation, same thing to me.

The only reason I am making this an issue is if true I might be able to use it to custom install, after restore windows 8, and it is a free upgrade. So anyone who is using it without windows 8 installed will be limited, but and I say but it should allow for updating a system that has 8 installed. And if so the iso would allow for a custom install. Hey I can wish anyway.
