My pc shut off today all of a sudden, it was running normally, and next time power on windows would not start up normally. the power turn on as normal, windows 8 blue logo show up with circle running for 3 seconds, then screen would show a sign losing signal from monitor, then screen would turn dark, nothing going on, power still on, no beep, no sound or anything.

I am running windows 8 retail with license bought from Microsoft on ssd, and windows 8.1 enterprise rtm on a separate drive. Normally there are 2 items on blue boot menu.

I managed to log into safe mode, everything is still there, icons and files, installed software. I checked boot record and there are still same as before.

how to fix this problem?

Usually Windows 8 loses the video signal while it is booting for a few seconds. Are both partitions viable, you may have to run a CHKDSK on each drive. The usual drive repair programs will not work on an SSD drive, so we can't check for bad sectors.

When Windows 8 randomly shuts off like this is is for a good reason, maybe the mounted partition became unreadable.

You have two OS partitions on one drive, it sounds like the main partition is not mounting during boot and the second one is, but the Boot Sector for both OSes is on the main Windows 8 drive. Therefore, it is not finding either OS.

If you can choose a different partition for boot in the BIOS you should do that, also, there should be an entry for Windows 8 Boot (UEFI Boot) in the BIOS as well, if it is a new machine. That is the one you should choose.

So I think you ought to use any Windows 8 Install disk to get into a Command Prompt, run a full CHKDSK on both partitions. After that, you can use Bootrec /fixmbr and /scanos.

You will have to point to the Windows/System32 folder on either drive to get to Bootrec.exe because it is not in the Sources partition.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
It is not randomly shut off. it is sudden shut off. this never happened before.

the 2 separate windows are on separate physically hard drive, not same partition.

I used windows 8 start up disc, it did find both OS and either one would not load. windows 8 enterprise is on separate physical drive, it is on regular hard drive, not ssd, it also won't load. since window 8 can load into safe mode and all files are intact, so hard drive is not failing. when windows boot in normal mode, boot menu would not load, the screen turn dark, seems windows turn off itself and did not would load.

what is the problem?

I understand, I've had my system suddenly freeze when my C drive fell off of the SATA bus. In your case you were ejected from a running OS, so maybe you have a virus acting up. If yo can get into Safe mode, take a look at your System and Application Event logs from the time when this happened, so you;'ll have to roll it back to that day and time.

We need to find out which drive has the Boot Loader on it. Try removing the HDD with Voyager on it, er, Enterprise, see if it boots. After that, take the SSD out and see if it boots Enterprise D.

Whichever drive boots, will be the one with the bootloader on it. You should then be able to repair the Boot loader. Then add the second drive back in after you repair with BCDedit, then run BCDedit again to repair both loaders.

I'm thinking either the Bootloader is only on one drive, or, it is on both drives and one of them is corrupted.

If you get any numerical fail errors, I'll need to know those as well.

Read through this and see if anything is related to what's happening with you:

You can also change your Boot Loader to Legacy Mode for easier operation:
