Start screen is half the size it used to be

A few weeks ago my start screen was suddenly different. Instead of the apps being visible across the whole screen it has been shrunk to fit only half the screen. I've had a kitten stepping all over my keyboard and this may or may not have to do with it. I've tried searching this problem in Google with no luck. I've looked for a menu option to change it but can't find anything. I've tried just zooming out but it doesn't affect it. How can I make the start screen how it originally was?

Welcome to the forums!
If the cat did it then you have a genius cat there: discovering this kind on unexpected glitches overnight... I personally never encountered or seen this yet.
To be sure, somewhere, some settings were changed, and it looks weird. :)

Does it remain like that after a reboot? Have you tried to pick another screen resolution and then switch back?

If nothing helps, you can try the refresh: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2293-refresh-windows-8-a.html

Good luck

    That's basically it.
Looks like you got that little "-" button on the right lower corner pressed, try clicking on it then press escape.

No its not the minus button, that view does not contain a scroll bar.

I had the problem once after i connected to a monitor. I just changed the monitor settings. Have also checked if your screen resolution is set max?

You should have "Windows Resizing" or "Scaling" in your Video Control Panel, try using that.

If this is 8.1, it is supposed to have automatic rescaling every time you plug into a new monitor, if thats the case, then it's futzed up.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
I fixed this with a function key on my space bar that allows me to zoom. FN + Space Bar
After fixing this I tried to zoom it back out just to test it and was not able to. Anyways this problem is solved.

Great, it may have been a fluke that got you to that view anyway, some kind of key combo you may have accidentally hit. Just remember how you got out of it, in case you ever get trapped in that view again someday.

You can go ahead and mark this thread as "Solved"
