Solved Can't access documents in library

I am not loving windows eight. Slow, clutzy and when I couldn't retrieve any documents after installing scansnap software, I uninstalled all the new software, that didn't help, I tried to restore the computer to an earlier date and it wouldn't restore, said a file was missing. One thing that seems to have an impact is that it initiated a homegroup that wasn't there before. I can't delete or uninstall it and I have no need for it. Any suggestions welcomed.

Sounds like you did an upgrade install. Upgrades, when they work, are great.. but if they fail.. and they fail quite frequently.. you should really just do a clean install.. otherwise you will spend all your time trying to fix it.. and you'll end up doing a clean install in the end anyways. So just do it right away.

This was no upgrade. New computer with win 8 loaded. Crap all the way. It will be the last PC for me. Awesome tutorial. I do appreciate the time and expertise that went into producing it. I find the need for it disturbing! That means mine is not an isolated problem, that lots of us (hundreds, thousands, millions?) are sitting here with new PCs loaded with software that requires these tutorials to be written. And used. Long down-time, lots of my-time running hopeful fixes....I was there for windows 3.1 and have been here with all the successors but this time, I am done. The need for tutorials like this have finally converted a die-hard Windows woman into a Mac person. Windows 8 is the most non-functional garbage ever.

Hello Onedoggy,

This function in this tutorial is available to help users when their system files get corrupted for whatever reason. Usually by the user's own mistakes, or by some software installed by the user or OEM.

I hope your experience with Windows 8 will be better.

Usually new Windows 8 machines run well, at least the ones I have seen, what did you get?

Most likely they loaded the Startup with junk apps, you have to go through those and disable the ones that are not drivers or special features.
