I plan to upgrade my PC I want to uninstall and then reinstall windows 8 to the new SSD. The Windows 8 64-bit I have was a Download from the Microsoft download center. At the time it was on offer as a upgrade . I have been told by some one that Microsoft will not let me clone this to a new drive as the processor is different . Is this true and if so why as I always did this with windows 7 with no problems . Also can I do this as a fresh install instead if I am unable to preform a clone to my SSD . I plan to use the same motherboard all that will change is the processor from 2 to 8 Core and the HDD to SSD and 2 new graphics cards and a bigger case .

can anyone clarify this Please

It's OK If you replace the processor but if you replace the Mother Board then you'll need to re-activate Windows.

Moving an OS to a new hard drive into the same system should work with no problems, I moved my OS from a SATA drive to a Hybrid drive, and it's still running.

Processor should not be a problem, at worst, you will be deactivated. Use the same KEY to activate, and when prompted, do a Phone Activation.

You should clone the drive FIRST. Make sure the OS gets moved properly, after it is proved stable, THEN swap out the CPU.

Yah, nut remember, you will probably have to call the number it shows you in the Phone Activation Screen.

Hopefully you will not have to do it. Let us know when you do this, post back here and tell us if you had to re-activate. Do it the way I suggested, Drive first, then CPU later.

All done no real problems did not have to re register my OS but had to re-download Medea center it was siting in my updates so not a problem PC starts in under 25 seconds new mostly down to the SSD with a bit of help from the AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition, FX-8300 think this is overkill but it was on offer just £50 more than the 6 Core but maybe I would have got the same performance and saved that £50 O well Over all I am very satisfied with how thing worked out .
I would recommend this type of upgrade to any one its better than spending about £650 on a PC of a lower spec

My upgrade cost me £437 and is much higher spec than the shops buy effort .

Thank you all for the Top advice .

Yep all Good probably the quickest trouble Free Upgrade I have ever dune.

All the talk about windows 8 being the next Vista and on a road to nowhere is a lot of rubbish.

Win 8 is by far better than win 7

Given time I think people will grow to like and understand it although Microsoft should have had a 8.1 version from day one for Desktop users and gamers . as I do feel there is no need for a touch screen for desktop PCs But if you know what you are doing it is not difficult to set up a windows 8 original version to run well with a desktop PC without touch .

Also as I am here and don't see any need to start a new thread about This but have any of you noticed that DDR3 RAM as rocketed in price lately ? is it possible that there is a DDR4 of some kind coming soon as they did shoot up the price of DDR2 just before DDR3 was out .

Depends on where you buy it, try Newegg. Newegg actually started out selling Ram in stores, but so many people would break in and steal all their ram, they went to an Online Service. It happened at the Egghead store that used to be near me. Surely you guys remember Egghead Software? I remember seeing brand new PS-2's in there, with "Micro-Channel Architecture" heh.

They are good prices at Newegg but unfortunately no UK shipping available . I tried zico components its a BIG shop by me they import from USA & china but the import duty and UK Tax makes it just as expensive as buying it here . So I ended up getting this RAM (2 x Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9 XMP Performance Desktop Memory Kit Black) £125.91 and its not really what I wanted but all I could afford. I wanted 2x8GB Corsair DDR3 2100+ (OC) gaming Memory Kit Black witch would cost £123.99. every ware I looked it was out of stock . but Newegg as it shame they don't send it here . the closest we have to Newegg in the UK is Overclockers UK - Computer components, hardware & gaming PC
But they did not have it ever so I got the 8GBx4 kit . it will reach me by Monday .
