It's hard to understand any of this, I take it your Screens are blank? Do you have access to any of your Desktop apps? and is the Desktop showing a different wallpaper than the one you had set?

You may be loaded into a Temporary Profile, you wont have any apps on your Start Screen although you may still be able to run a few Desktop apps. This is a difficult thing to fix, I would copy all of your personal data off the drive, then re-install Windows 8 Fresh.

Actually the act of removing your HDD and putting a different one in there, could cause this. You can't just take a hard drive from another system and shove it into a new laptop, it most likely won't boot to Windows. There may have been something in your BIOS that logged the HDD removal and now the system thinks it is another new drive, so it's not giving you full access to the OS.

If you have a BLACK background with no Wallpaper, then you are not activated.

Usually when someone uses a "crack activator" that installs some kind of KMS activator and the activation fails, they will get a huge black screen with a cursor and NO desktop OR start screen, but the mouse can be seen and you can get into Task Manager. I've fixed t6hree computers that had been "activated" like that, I made the owners buy a new key.

But a regular activation that has failed, should show you the black wallpaper, ie NO wallpaper.

If you can get a command prompt, type in SLMGR.VBS /DLV and see what it says, make sure your activated.
