Windows 8 Black Desktop

Hi guys. Prior to this issue I had not installed anything all week nor made any updates, etc.
I boot up windows as always and noticed that upon logging in, my lock screen took a while longer to bring me to my desktop. Now my desktop is completely black and my taskbar icons are gone. Opening firefox or any other program through the start menu does NOT make them show up on the taskbar as they always would. My desktop's pretty much disabled. Here's a screenshot. I refuse to pay $150 for Microsoft support to get me out of this one.
I would be fine resetting to factory settings, however when it says my computer must restart to enter recovery mode, my computer in the middle of the restart gives me a light blue screen that says :( Windows encountered a problem and my system must restart.
That is cancelling my recovery mode boot and sending me back to my black desktop.
Can anyone help?

I booted with msconfig in safe mode and tried the recovery. Still gave me the restart page though
Now I tried the f8 solution and am currently stuck in an infinite reset loop.

Method 1-
I would have you disconnect any external hardware (monitors, printers, USB devices etc) from the computer except the keyboard and the mouse.
Now, hard shutdown the computer and then try to perform the startup repair with the Windows 8 DVD. Check if that helps.

Method 2-
I would have you perform a refresh of the Operating System,
Refer the steps for the same-
a) Boot with the Windows 8 DVD and then select “Next”.
b) Now, select “Repair” and then select “Refresh your PC”.
You may refer the article for detailed information about a Refresh-
How to restore, refresh, or reset your PC

Method 3
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

Run Command Prompt as Administrator

Type the following

sfc /scannow

This will scan your System Files for any errors and Automatically Fix any issues found, It will not affect any files or programs you have on the computer and none of your personal data will be lost.

anther option if you have it is

pick disable auto... reboot on system failure

Note: The Refresh will uninstall and reinstall all the apps downloaded from the Windows Store. But any app downloaded from external sources will be removed.

Usually the "Black Screen o Deth" means your activation has gotten corrupted. Depends on how you activated it, if it was a core version that wont happen cos it activates from the hardware. See if you can start Task Manager while in the black state and run a command prompt, and type in "SLMGR.VBS /dlv" and see what your activation state is.

So, you tried to run a System Recovery on the Laptop using the F11 key?

I'd bring the laptop back if it is still in warranty. You'll have to remove the hard drive in order to connect it to another machine and take out your personal files. You should be able to do that without voiding the warranty.

If you had an Install Disk, you'd be able to fix it, you may be able to find a legitimate download on the net, we found a Core version when a user in here was looking for it. If you know the exact version of 8 you had, do a search for the install disk. Sometimes they are up on Technet.

The biggest problem with Windows 8 and 8.1 is nobody is giving install disks with new machines. You should be able to procure one from the manufacturer, check for phone numbers in the documentation in the Box.

Having an install disk is just about mandatory for fixing a lot of Windows 8 Problems.
