Since installing Win.8 I've had problems opening folders with a "double click" of the mouse, also having this same problem in some of my programs and have the latest updates. When I double click on something to correct it - nothing happens. This is so frustrating. It used to work in Win. 7.
Could it be that you're not double-clicking fast enough for it to register?
Try this - Move the mouse pointer to the bottom-left of the screen and right click, then choose Control Panel. Change the view so you're viewing by large icons, then click on Mouse. On the Buttons tab, there is a "Double-click speed" section. Try double-clicking on the folder that's to the right of the Speed slider. You should see it open and close like this: -
If you don't, try adjusting the Speed slider and try again. If that works, you can just hit Apply, then OK to close out of that screen and you're done.
