Solved Brightness Option for Monitor is Greyed Out

I have a new HP Pavilion Slimline 400-034PC with a HP Pavilion 23bw monitor. I need to dim the monitor screen because it is too bright but the brightness control in the Windows 8 settings is greyed out. All drives and OS are up to date. The adaptive brightness has been changed in the power settings but that did nothing. Please advise since it really needs to be changed ASP. Thanks.

I think the brightness controls in Windows are usually there for laptops where there isn't a separate monitor with separate controls.

But it sounds like you have separate monitor - can you not just turn down the brightness control on the monitor itself? You may have a menu button on the monitor, or there may be a good old fashioned knob that you can twist.

If not there may be a way to adjust if via the Graphics driver on the computer (right-click on a blank patch of the Desktop and select Graphic Properties perhaps) - but I suspect changing it on the monitor will be easier.

Do you perhaps have 3rd party software that may be overriding said controls...?? Like amd vision control...?? (you would have this, if you have a radeon video card...)

Thank you both. I finally was able to dig down and find the location although next time I will just right-click on the desktop. There were icons on the monitor so I was expecting it to do like prior monitors that I have had that allowed to to make changes on the actual monitor. Resolved. :)
