I've had to buy a new laptop, unfortunately it came with Windows 8, now don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those who resist all change, but I'm having a serious problem...
Windows 8 assumes that everyone has a decent internet connection, and everything, but EVERYTHING in Metro does everything by downloading and is interactive with the internet.
I live in rural Ireland, and as far as the internet goes, we are barely out of 1985 internet speeds. This means that Metro Apps are intensely frustrating, I've so far spent hours waiting for the simplest things to load.
My main grievance is that ALL games, books etc are interactive, there is absolutely NO WAY I can use, for example the "Solitaire Collection", which appears to be one of the simpler Apps. Every time I open an App, I just get the screen filled with the same icon/colour as the App icon, and then it stays like that for hours. I'm presuming something is supposed to happen other than that.
I tried downloading and running the classic solitaire games, but those won't run under Windows 8, even using Compatibility, they all complain that Vista.Emulation.dll is missing, I put that in, it won't register, and they still don't work.
Is there any known workaround for this? I need games as executables not as Apps. I'd be perfectly happy with the standard game that came with Windows 7!
HELP?????
I've been "promised" by Eircom that they are going to install high speed phone lines since 2002 (within 5 weeks/months etc), but that's never going to happen, we've still got the loose twisted copper wire that won't take ISDN.
I tried posting this in the Microsoft Community forum, but it refused to Submit...
