Solved I deleted my recovery partition.... I know now that's bad!

I can't refresh or reinstall using Windows or Samsung functions, which I is my own fault as I deleted the recovery partition by mistakenly thinking it was not important.

I have contacted Samsung, they say it's my fault so they won't help. I contacted Microsoft and they said the same. Nobody will provide installation disks. I think these are my options..

1) Use my flatmates Windows 8 laptop to make disks. Its a different brand laptop though, is this a problem? Also, should I use DVDs or CDs? I have my serial number and product code and I don't mind downloading drivers from Samsung.

2)Buy the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for £50 because I'm a student. But I'm unsure if this will be a full install with all the files I need because it is only an upgrade?

I would like to sort this out sooner rather than later. I need my laptop for coursework. Any advice greatly appreciated.:D

It isn't a bad idea at all....but that's assuming you have made recovery discs. Anytime I buy a laptop, I wipe the drive completely and install the OS myself, but I keep a copy of my restore discs, just in case. Having your only recovery method on the hard drive (which is prone to fail) is never a good idea.

That all being said, do you have any friends who might have a plain vanilla Windows 8 disc? The recovery discs from another laptop, assuming they even boot, typically won't let you repair a system...only reinstall.

Welcome to EightForums.

1) Will not work.

2) Will install the full version of Windows 8, no need for a product key to reinstall.
(Do order the x64 DVD)

3) You can order the Microsoft official OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.

I have done that with other versions of windows, haven't tried with win8 tho. You could try dvds.

How is Samsung recovery working if you deleted your recovery partition?

l had to do something to the Sata Port 1?

If you can remember what that was, it might be useful to anybody else in a similar position.

This isn't making any sense to me either, or how a setting concerning the SATA port would suddenly all a recovery to begin.

We have no idea what you are doing.

Are you using recov dvd's, is it something from your flatmates machine, or is the recov partition on your machine still intact?

Neither do I! The man asked me to tell him what was across from Port 1 Sata. Then he had me select the default values, load them, save and exit. The recovery program failed and now the laptop just opens the utility screen.
My flatmate is backing up Windows with a USB so I can try to install it from that? Fingers crossed.
What do you guys think?

Did you make a restore point before you messed things up ?

Can you boot into the BIOS ?

If so I may be able to help.

Not sure how to boot into BIOS?

Hold Delete key when restarting.

I restarted tapped on delete. The same grey and blue utility screen appeared. I assume this is the BIOS screen? I can't get it to load windows at all. The samsung guy told me to choose the recovery option that wiped my c drive. Don't know if thats relevant?

Can't answer you directly that's a taboo word in these parts, but if you type "Windows 8 x32/x64 ISO Download" into Google you may be able to find something, a technet download or something.

If you can't, send me a PM, maybe I can find something for you.

Since you didn't post back yet, I'll finish the lesson.

If you get F-12 enabled, restart, press F-12 at prompt on opening screen.

If you get this--

SUNP0012.JPG

Choose UEFI.

Then when this shows up next, press 6 to get into Safe Mode with command prompt.

SUNP0007.JPG

In the command prompt type in

rstrui.exe

And press Enter.

In the restore point window choose your restore point & let it do its thing & you will have an operational computer again.

I'm going on the assumption Windows automatically created a restore point that you will be able to use.

Post back with results please.
