Hi,
I would ask you to help me with one very annoying problem.

Approximately every 10min my win8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
I don´t know how decribe it... it´s sound like "hello something is new" :D

Everything works well and theoretically it isn´t big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player´s sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it´s permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page. And it is annoying. Very annoing if I have to do this ten times per movie.

In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.

Pls help me :)

Try going into control panel - personalization - change sound effects. Here you can play the sounds assigned to each type of event to see which ones have the sound you are hearing. Then, change the suspects, one at a time, until the mystery sound you are hearing changes. That should give you a clue as to what is happening.

Open Device Manager and let it sit on screen. When you hear the sound, quickly look to that window. I was able to find out that a desktop system had a failing USB controller this way. It would drop, then come back on, causing Windows to think new hardware was inserted. I could see the controller disappear and then reappear in the Device Manager window.

Yah, it could also be a Notification, these have that sound but are accompanied with notifications on the upper right of the screen. If you have a program looking for an Auto Update, it will do this. Turn off Auto Updating for all programs. Also, if your "People" app is connected to Facebook, you will get notices of Birthdays, etc all day long at regular intervals.

Hi there,
I tried some your advices and now I am sure the problem is "device connection". Unfortunately i wasn´t able to find anything suspicious in device manager. Only one permanently marked problem is something called: "basic graphic adapter Macrosoft" in graphic card section.

I turned off the sound it made me crazy but the problem is still here when i watch movie or YB :(

I think I've had this before with a failing USB mouse - due to the conductors in the cable breaking and making contact, and also a dodgy USB SD card adapter.

I don´t think so. I just tried disconnect/connect mouse and keyboard too it didn´t interrupt my sound. It is something else.

Ok, Pavel that was just my experience.

You don't help yourself by not posting your full System Specs. Please take time to update them on your profile.

Your first post makes it sound like some USB device is being disconnected or reconnected, then later, you describe that the audio stream stops, either for a short time, or for longer, requiring a reset or reload. You state it happens on youtube and movies.

You mention some "Surrogate process" - what do you know about that? COM surrogate? It may be a bad codec that is crashing. Try a different media player, update DivX etc. Apparently disabling thumbnail previews can help.

fafhrd:

I am sorry, I am new here and honestly I didn´t know about option of system specs in my profile. :) It´s filled in now.

As u certainly recognized I am not excellent english speaker + my win8 is in Czech language + I am quite disorientated from the new 8th enviroment. I know it is deadly mix. I´am very sorry for this. :-D

The disruptive Sound sounds accidentally. Watching YB or movie is not condition.

I know absolutely nothing about COM surrogate. I was searching some help on czech forums first and most similar problems were connected with surrogate topics. When I first saw 3 surrogate proccesses in task manager after interrupt Sounds in one minute I thought it is not coinsidence. But I am not sure of course.
Media player or DivX has not any influence. Doesn´t matter if I use VLC, GOM or if I play some game or if there is just empty desktop and I am in another room.

An example: I have started to play Deus Ex game recently. I hear "the Sound" average 3times per hour(game´s sound is temporary turned off or turned down. Disruption is only about 3seconds long) and 1times per hour it turned off game´s sound permanently. So I had to reset the game or play without game sound. The Sound is really accidentally.
The situacion is similar in all actions on pc including watching movie and YB.

I checked your link. Thank you but I am afraid it is not solution for my problem :-(

Thanks for updating the details. Your English is infinitely better than my Czech!

The sound is spurious and happens at random intervals, not just when watching videos. So the "surrogate" thing is possibly or probably just a coincidence - it is a normal Windows process anyway.

It's a gaming machine by the look of it :) are you overclocked in any way?

If It were my machine, I would open the case and check that all connections and memory etc., were properly seated, just in case it is a loose connection.

There is a feature on the motherboard:
GIGABYTE On/Off Charge technology is revised and upgraded on all GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards, with comprehensive and enhanced charging support for a broad range of devices that include those that run both iOS and Android. Users can enjoy fast AC charging over USB on mobile devices, even when the PC is turned off.

Is anything connected that could be charging, like a phone, camera or mp3 player - could this be the source of your noises?

The commonest problem sources of odd noises to full crashes are drivers, and the most immediate culprits might be the one for the Realtek ALC898 on-board sound - and one for your Sapphire HD7970 Vapor-X 3GB Graphics card. Anything USB related too, from card readers to webcams could be part of the problem.

Checkout the Device Manager for devices with warnings, too

Yes it is for gaming. I am not overclocked, I built this PC 2 month ago and in this time it deals whith any game in full details. So there is no need for this yet. But in the future... :)

I am in work now, but of course I will make sure myself that all connections are seated properly. But I think they are.

Nope, I have´t connected anything except mouse, keyboard, monitor and sound system. No webcam, no cardreader, no microphone.
Graphic card is out of suspicion. I had it in reclaim proceeding last month. PC worked on MB´s integrated graphic card and there wasn´t any change in my problem.

Device Manager shows still the same, it shows some problem in graphic card section. Under my Radeon is something called "basic graphic adapter Microsoft" with bad drivers and in network section is something wrong too..... I am afraid I can´t translate it properly.... some bus and sequencer stuff

The "basic graphic adapter Microsoft" seems to mean that the ATI Radeon Sapphire drivers are not being used - just the basic Microsoft drivers. You should get the drivers updated from the ATI Radeon Sapphire site.

The Network drivers for your board are Intel, I think - you should get them from the Gigabyte motherboard website.

Post your Device manager screenshot after you have done the downloads and installed them, if there are still difficulties.
