Hello

I got a new ASUS laptop, and I like everything about it except one thing; windows explorer randomly restarts. Not like a reboot, but it becomes unresponsive, then the taskbar goes away and back again. It all takes ~15 seconds.

Some Program is latching on to Explorer maybe. HAve you installed any kind of "Start Button" like Start 8 or Classic Shell? Those are the two that are the best. I used "StartisBack" and that would cause something similar to what you are experiencing.

Check your Startup items and see what's loading, any 3rd party apps? OneNote or Outlook? Any ASUS apps?

Nope, I dont have anything like that installed. All the asus apps are set to run on startup, except InstantOn which I turned off, but it still starts up.

Maybe it happens when one of the Power Control apps kicks in? How about your Event Viewer, there should be a log of Explorer Crashes, and it should say why it crashed in the log. Next time it happens, open Even Viewer and see if it has made a log of the event. Then post it here if it has.
