Solved I,ve lost four thousand pictures

Hi there, I,ve just lost nearly four thousand pictures...

I thought I had duplication in my computer as I saw Pictures/My pictures and Pictures/My pictures, so I deleted the first one, and I couldn't stop it, the computer deleted all within 4 seconds. I tried to find them in the Trash, but there was only older stuff, about 300 pictures. I kept searching... and when I emptied the Trash, could see on the screen: it deleted more than 4 thousand pictures....
How can it be possible? Where are my pictures then?

In the last two weeks my windows 8 really made me unhappy, loosing the mouse, loosing the keyboard, loosing the internet, when I was doing my home work. The "know how" couldn't help me I was told by them to do factory settings, I,ve done it, took about 5 hours + 5 hours to make the "new" computer work....

Can be the problem, that I have renamed the Trash????? Is it worth to upload those pictures to the computer again? (As they are still in a memory stick :) :))

Please talk to me in basic English, if it is possible, thank you

Other problem:
After that factory settings my computer is not able to import pictures from my Nokia C3... It stops after some pictures, asks and I click: skip all pictures with problems- but at the end there is no new picture has come over. Probably it skips all, as it has already uploaded them... but I didn't find. Until I get back the other thousends of pictures, I cant search also.
Can anyone help me???
Thanks
Judyt

Alternatively, you can also try this:

Libraries - Restore Default - Windows 7 Help Forums
This will recerate the library structure you may have altered by deleting a library folder by mistake

Thereafter, just upload the pictures again from your USB stick

As mentioned by Oboedad55, Recuva is another possible option but I have only found any trash recovery method useful when attempting to recover a select few files; however, I believe that any attempt to recover 4,000 images, without some being damaged and/or non-recoverable, might result in you having to review each image for quality assurance. Good luck and hope our suggestions help you get back on your feet again!

Last year I erased an external disk and used Recuva. It found all my pictures and some videos plus some I had erased in the past. It is best to recover to another disk so you don't overwrite anything during recovery.

Wow! It never worked that well for me. In fact, it still doesn't work that well for me as exhibited by this test run:

Don't install or write anything to the hard drive until you recover your files. If you can install any recovery programs to another drive.

Recuva can't help if the files were overwritten.

I certainly understand that. And now the OP does as well. However, I don't get all the recommendations to attempt a recovery of 4,000 image files from the trash when she has a complete backup sitting on a USB stick.

Sometimes when you delete a mass of files, it will inform you that it cannot put them into the recycle bin. With windows 8 it is even more ambiguous, because by default there is no confirmation on the delete command, so it would have deleted the whole batch permanently if it was more that 8 GB of files.

Best bet is to do what others have said, don't touch the drive, and connect the drive to another system, use Recuva to get them back. Point Recuva to the "my pictures" folder and hopefully it will find them without a deep scan. Then choose all of the deleted files and restore them to another drive.

You can also use Hirens boot cd, boot to mini xp and Recuva will be in the hirens programs section. That way you would not have to disconnect your drive, you can restore them to some other place on the drive

Sorry to disagree with you on this one but her "safest" bet is to simply upload all of her "known to be good" files from her USB stick AFTER she has repaired her library structure. I'm also surprised that nobody ever bothered to ask the OP if she did any additional deletions after the 4,000 images were deleted. Moreover, if she has a reasonably fast USB stick, she could have already been done uploading those images. Also, the OP asked for an explanation in plain English and you are attempting to get her to use Hiren's boot CD?

But she said she had "found" a bunch of older images in her recycle bin. I don't know if she had tried to recover any of those, but chances are if she did, it may have overwritten some of the ones she wanted to recover. based on her lack of response, I made my suggestion, don't touch the drive, and to use recuva, per the first response in here. The files should still be there.

Rebuilding the Library, every result I found in googol for 'Rebuilding Library" refers to corrupted Media Center or Media Player libraries, I didn't find any that refer to the Photo Library, except for iPhoto in Macs.

If you know some way to rebuild her photo library, that would be good info to post, is there a tutorial on it on this board? I looked, didn't see anything. That would preclude that her drive had developed problems of some sort, but the issue here is how do we get the pics back for her, the quickest way possible? If they were the result of an accidental deletion, then they should all still be there in that folder. If Recuva can find them, then she can restore all of them in one fell swoop, after that, we can try to find out if there was another problem.

Even if she had used the system after this happened, SOME of the files should still be there. Things like Pagefile.sys and Swapfile.sys tend to use the same area of a drive.

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Recuva installed and said: searching 176124 (!) files, takes appr. 3 hours.... It took 2 hours and didnt find anything in the trash :( So I have just uploaded the pictures from the memory stick.
Thank you for the time and help of every one of you.
If you dont mind to waste some more time for me, Ive got the SAME question:
- In my Pictures /My pictures library I could/can see the same folders, same pictures... Is it duplication? Thats why I deleted one of the library, because I thought it was duplication. And when I realized that all my pictures disappeared, wanted to get them back from the trash... and there was no (newly deleted) picture in there.... only some hundred I deleted them previously. So I emptied the trash, because there was no picture there... And when it started (emptying), I could see a message for a half second: emptying 4112 pictures :( :(
I m fine now I just would like to know and understand WHAT HAPPENED and where the pictures are??? I feel a little bit stupid using different softwares to solve the problems out - not knowing the problem itself...
Thank you again for your help, I relly appreciate it and have a lovely day :)

Library's don't contain any files, just links (shortcuts).

When you view your Pictures library, it is just a link back to the My Pictures folder in C:\Users\username\MyPictures.

Be sure to backup your files in the future!
