Solved Strange font in Windows 8 for system dialogue

I don't know what to call the system feedback I'm getting in an unreadable font. It's what comes up in the lower left of the screen when you hover over one of the format-change buttons here on the message edit box.

I want to change this font to something I can read. If someone can tell me where to look in regedit, I would be grateful.

Now sure if you are just getting it from the Corel installer or everywhere. Anyway, go to Control Panel> Fonts> Font Settings> Restore Default Fonts. See if that helps.

"go to Control Panel> Fonts> Font Settings> Restore Default Fonts." I did that before I posted. It didn't help. This is not just Corel; it's happening with everything. And this is a brand new computer, loaded.

So, what else did you try before you posted? Give us a list so we do not replicate any of your previous attempts in our subsequent recommendations.

There in lays the problem; new computer loaded with crap. If you can get your hands on a Windows 8 disc, and do a clean reinstall of the system without all the manufactures junk. . .Good Luck

BTW Linda, Welcome to the Eight Forums.? . . .

What I did before: Looked at the fonts in regedit; they all seem to be the same, different from this one. That is, all the system fonts I could see were the same font.

I am new to Windows 8, so I'm spending a lot of time finding out where things are.

This computer wasn't preloaded with much, and no junk that I've found. I've been impressed with how pristine it is. Except for this one little detail!

Now, the three most important questions:

1-Has it been this way since you opened the box and first turned it on?
2-If not, was there any triggering event that might have casued this issue
(eg, you contracted malware and cleaned it out)?
3-I asked for a list any you only provided searching the registry as an additional attempt to identify the issue. That's a strange jump over many possible traditional fixes IMHO.

Good luck.

1. Yes, it has been this way from the start.
2. N/A
3. "a strange jump over many possible traditional fixes" You might suggest what I should have done. I only did what I knew to do. I have never encountered this problem before. I'm not an expert.

All I wanted to know was where one should go in the computer to find the font settings for that particular system feedback and change it. I have just started working with this computer and this is the only problem I've had so far. It's my first Windows 8 machine. I should state that I'm a 67 year old female who is pretty savy about computers, but is new to this one.

3. "a strange jump over many possible traditional fixes" You might suggest what I should have done.

I tried that route and you responded with "I tried that already" so I was not about to attempt another response and hear that again. That is exactly why I asked for a list and the only other thing you identified was a registry search. Now, that is what I found to be quite strange. If you are not an expert (as described by your own words) then why are you jumping straight to the registry? Anyway, referencing your response to item #1, start uninstalling some of that bloatware that came with your PC, try a factory restore, or just return it if it was that way out of the box. Good luck.

"start uninstalling some of that bloatware"--I'm trying to tell you that there wasn't a bunch of bloatware installed on this computer. I was surprised, as that's unusual.

I went to the registry because that was what was suggested in other blogs about this subject. I have used the registry before, years ago, but not much in the past few years. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty knowledgeable. I didn't change anything in the registry because it wasn't clear to me where that particular font setting was located and I know one can screw up royally messing with the registry.

The Font? Try a few things with dialogue boxes, make sure.
