copy and paste

Hi again

I am having trouble copying and pasting from gmail into word 2007
I can copy into a note pad doc but not into word
I can copy and paste from word to word doc
I can copy and paste text or images from any internet page either in part by highlighting or in full
I have tried ctrl and v and c
also standard copy and paste which I have been using for years
this did work for the last 6 months and even a day or two ago ?
its as if something is blocking me copy text from within the open gmail
On windows 8
Tried winding PC back a day or two still had no effect?

Kudos to you for a fine job of preliminary troubleshooting this issue. So, are you accessing gmail via a direct internet login or POP3/IMAP connection. If direct internet connection, what browser are you using? Have you tried using an alternative browser with the same results?

I just tested Opera,Chrome, & IE 10.

IE 10 is OK as to C&P at gmail.

The other 2 , nope.

Nice job David!

You know, I sometimes have the same problem. When I say "sometimes" it looks like its which program we're using when we copy. But, I have found that if I go back and copy and paste it again it will paste it.
Just a thought.

I kept testing.
Some emails on all 3 browsers C&P'd just fine.

The fancy ones from companies gave trouble.
I think it's in the code used to format the email.
I could be wrong.....

Just some other items for the OP to check if he is using IE10:

This might only come into play if GMail is running a script of some sort (not sure). Anyway, make sure it is set to prompt:



You could also try adding GMail as a Trusted Site to see if that fixes your issue:
(but I would suggest the above only as a test)

Tried copy and paste using Firefox as browser and copy and past into word works fine, so obviously this has something to do with IE. but this has only come on in the last 2 or 3 days I cannot quite remember when I copied and pasted from Gmail last but do it quite often and this has only just presented within the last 2 or three day period, tried winding pc back [the wind back worked] but the copy and past issue remains.
Gmail - direct connection through Google, I have not changed anything myself[knowingly] tried re setting IE settings and re-boot still the same. very puzzled still

Update just tried this using mail from w8 UI and can copy text then go into desk top and open word and paste OK
but when in desktop mode only [not that happy with W8 UI for work I do I added start8 6 months ago and use as I would PC without W8 UI] - can not copy direct from Gmail into word as I stated before was working fine until a day or two ago

see picture screen shot if I select past from top task bar and then select any of the formats excluding HMTL then paste works fine.
cannot see a way of setting default text to anything else as it always seems to jump to HMTL when I open this dialog box again
