I need to know what is the easest way of locating the device manager and bringing it up. This would be like the default method of doing this without having any custom shortcuts setup. So you should be able to go to any install and use this method :D

It took me months to find that Win+X Combo! One thing you can do is tell your desktop to show your "My/This Computer" icon on the desktop and from there you can right click to get into Device Man.

You can also move your mouse to the lower left corner and right click on the the popup, that gives you the same menu as winkey+x.

Or, you can open the start page and just start typing Device and hit enter.

Really wish that this menu wasn't so obscure. i use it almost everyday. Most people I know on Windows 8 have no idea whatsoever that it is there, or even exists.

Probably the average user is not supposed to use it. MS want them in those little squares as much as possible.

They obviously realise power users want to stay in the desktop, so have kept that vestige of a start menu.

Unfortunately, it is a kludge. A lot of functions aren't there any more, so that throws you back into the metro madness.

If they had kept all the start menu functions, then I am pretty sure MS think hardly anybody would venture near the metro monster.
