Solved Recycle Bin, restoring lost documents

Recently I was transferring documents from one computer to another and I believe I deleted my Microsoft OneNote notebook in the process. Any idea how to find the lost file? I don't think I had saved it (OneNote confuses me a bit) but there has to be a way to find it, right?

OneNote keeps a backup in the App Data folder.

C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\15.0

IF the file is not in that location, you can find the default locations for OneNote files in File --> Options --> Save & Backup.

It is Hidden. Open File explorer and click View and check Hidden Items. Then close and reopen File explorer.

Or, you can just add to the end of the path AppData in the location field when you are in the root of your user folder.

I found the App Data folder. Now, however, the problem is that there isn't a OneNote folder in the Microsoft folder. I selected "show hidden" and everything, the folder just isn't there. Do you think I accidentally deleted that folder?

It's because you have to enable showing "System Folders and Files" in Explorer View Options. Just go to the "View" tab when you have Explorer open to your Users/(Username) folder, and "Options" is at the very right end of that panel. Turn on "Show Hidden System Folders and Files" or whatever it is called, and your Appdata folder will be seen. Otherwise, it is hidden.

It may also be listed as "Show Protected Folders and Files" as well, turn that one on too.

Great, make sure you switch those settings back to hidden, unless you want to always see the Appdata folder. With those on, your documents folder will show all kinds of extra folders as well, but they are symbolic links, I don't know why they are in there. You'll see links to your "My Pictures" and "My Music" folders, but clicking on them wont bring you there. It's where the folders used to be in XP, so it may be like that for when you use a transfer program, or when you upgrade from XP to Vista/7/8
