Cannot set album art screensaver -- please assist!

I installed this screensaver, which is listed as a Windows 8 app: Download Album Art Screensaver 0.5 for Windows 8/7/Vista/XP

It installs fine and it shows up in my lists of screensavers and I'm able to preview it.
BUT when I try to apply it in 'Personalization' it just says 'None.'
See attached screenshot.

I was able to install another screensaver which let me apply it just fine -- sadly, the album art screensaver is the only one I want, but it won't let me do it!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated -- thanks in advance!!

Read this overview and note that it requires .Net Framework 2.0:

Album Art Screensaver is a screensaver for Windows inspired by the iTunes album art screensaver that is bundled with MacOS. If you have been jealous of your Mac-owning friends who are able to enjoy this nifty thing at no cost then look no further! Features: Possible to retrieve artwork in numerous ways, making it compatible with most music libraries out there. Customizable animations, inluding the nice "flip" style found in the OS X screensaver. iTunes 7 support, artwork downloaded using the auto-download feuture is displayed by the screensaver. Low overhead and CPU usage. Multi-monitor support. Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

I know -- my Windows 8 installation already had Net Framework 3.5 installed which includes 2.0.

So, I checked a few places for possible download links and one had an .msi file and the other had a .exe file. Which type did you download and how did you install it?

I did the msi -- same result. Then I did the exe both with and without 'Administrative Rights' -- same result. Frustrating that this screensaver seems to exist in different forms but NONE of them can be applied as a screensaver! Too weird.

Ok, I could not get the 0.5 version to work; however, I was able to get a 1.01 beta version working but I had to go through a setup procedure (via settings) on the screensaver menu to tell it where to find the art. Unfortunately my test rig didn't have much art (and I don't use iTunes) so I had to settle for a few .jpg images but it does work and you can download it here:

Just to confirm -- you were able to hit 'Apply' and in Personalization 'Album Art Screensaver' appears as the selected screensaver?
Because I was able to see it in my Screen Saver window, like my screenshot shows, but when I hit 'Apply' under Screen Saver in Personalization it just says 'none.'
I do have a TON of album art so I would really love for this to work. Guess I'll see tonight...

I had a funny feeling you were going to ask that so I will answer it the best I can. So, when I started out, I did not have any screensaver. I downloaded the 1.01 Beta, installed it, went to the screensaver menu, selected it, clicked settings, searched for art, clicked OK, and that returned me to the generic screensaver menu. Now, at this point, I don't believe I had to hit apply because it might have been greyed out but I think I just hit OK and it worked and the Album Art Screensave was showing up as applied (bottom-right corner). So, now I just went in and selected a different screensaver and I had to hit apply. Then I went back to the Album Art Screensaver and I also had to hit apply. I think you are going to be OK. Give it a whirl.

Sadly no Same thing, it installs, I go into settings and point it to my album art folder, but when I apply it, it just says 'None' under Screensaver. I'm using Win 8 64 bit, maybe that's why? Did u select 'Run As Administrator' when u installed?

Let me try it again and I'll try to capture a step by step. I am using Win 8.1 x64 on my test machine right now. I'll be back.
