Windows unable to install - stuck in safe mode

My dad restored his computer to its factory settings while Windows 8 was in safe mode, attempting to remove a virus, and now every time the computer is booted, an error message appears, saying that Windows is not able to install because safe mode is still active. Is there a way to disable safe mode so that Windows set up can be continued?

Hello, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you could use either step 6 in Option Four or step 6 in Option Five to start Windows 8 back in normal mode.
    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Yow! Well, a "Restore to factory Settings" even when run in Safe mode SHOULD do exactly that - It should have rebooted, wiped the drive, and re-installed Windows 8 and all of the Wild tangent games that came with it. Where exactly is "Restore to factory Settings" anyway, is it a Windows 8 function or was it an App supplied by the OEM?

    Hello Jon,

On OEM PCs that came with Windows 8 preinstalled, the reset feature does a factory recovery/restore.

Do you mean the one that runs when you press F11, or is it internal, on Windows 8 that can be accessed like an Application or feature?

It may vary with some OEM PCs that come with Windows 8 preinstalled, but usually it will be through the "reset" feature below in Windows 8.

The problem with option 4, step 6, is getting to the System configuration box is impossible. The computer won't start up because the Windows 8 setup will not allow it when stuck in safe mode. The only thing that can be done with it is to hit f8 a bunch of times as the computer boots and then hit escape to get to a start up menu. When you don't get to the start up menu in time, the error message appears again. The message also says to restart the computer to continue the installation, but every time the computer is rebooted, the error message appears all over again.

Advanced "Startup Settings" - Boot to in Windows 8

My dad did manage to get to the Startup Settings menu, exactly like the one that is in the example, but there is no option to disable safe mode there and that is what my dad needs.

While in Safe Mode, are you able to do step 6 in OPTION 5 with the command below instead?

    bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot

Is there a way to open the command prompt without being able to get into Windows? If there is no way to do that without being able to get into Windows, then there is no way to even use that command. That was the whole problem. It was impossible to get into Windows because it needed to be installed, but there was no way to disable safe mode without getting into Windows, that I knew of, while installing Windows could not be done without disabling safe mode.

My dad already unhooked the computer and hooked up the old one, which is the reason he bought the new one, which came with Windows 8 already installed. If there is a way to get it to work properly again, then I can hook all of the wires back up again and correct the problem myself. My dad is going to send the computer to my uncle who knows more about this kind of stuff than I do, but he's not experienced with Windows 8.

Yes, you should be able to open a command prompt while in Safe Mode the same way that you normally would.
