Hi,
Never got the chance yet to download windows 8.1 preview but I'm interested to know if it introduced any thing new to the font smoothing technology which is bad looking and not as sharp when compared to e.g. to OS X.
I tested the original windows 8 in a virtual machine and I didn't endure how fonts look on it overall whether I'm using the OS itself or using applications like Office 2013.

Thanks

No one noticed any improvements (if any) on the font smoothing technology in Windows 8.1? I thought it represented a big issue for tons of people like me and I didn't notice someone commenting on this issue since Win8.1 preview was released.

Hello corei5,

I personally haven't noticed any difference in font smoothing between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Preview so far.
Well, I don't think the final version will contain any improvements regarding that issue either :(

Hi corei5,

I have installed Windows 8.1 (on a separate partition dual booting with Windows 7) and have not noticed any improvement in the font rendering. IE11 is just as bad as IE10 was.:(

I have also installed Office 2013 and am sorry to report there is no improvement in the blurry, headache inducing font rendering.
MS are still forcing the horrid grey-scale font rendering upon their customers. It makes Office 2013 unusable as far as I'm concerned.

I'm glad I kept my Windows 7 partition with Office 2010 on it. That will be my primary OS until someone beats some sense into Microsoft.
