Hi , guys , I am running a 32 bit version of Windows 8 on my laptop . All is fine except that all of the Metro apps except IE 10 and control panel is not working . What should I do , install the 64 bit ? Anybody faced the problem ?
My screen resolution is greater than 1024x964 . Any suggestions , apart from changing the account type during login .
Thanks

Expecting a plausible answer soon .

Run sfc scan. Open a command prompt as admin (right click cmd, choose run as admin), then type:

sfc /scannow

Hit Enter, let it finish. You may need to repeat.

Hi , I ran the command twice , and the buffer reads out that there windows resource protection did not find any integrity violation . And still I get the light green screen whenever I click on weather or stock app .

Not a great idea right now ; after all I do not want to waste another night in fine tuning my PC from the beginning . Anyways thanks for the reply .

Have you turned off UAC through the EnableLUA registry setting?

That will kill the Metro Apps except IE and maybe one or two others.

What is the resolution of your display?

You click a Metro app, and the time moves but nothing else happens? This may be a display issue. Metro apps don't currently support screen resolutions lower than 1024x768, so increase your resolution if possible (launch the desktop, right-click, select Screen Resolution)

That's from the list of 50 windows 8 tips that I posted.

I had a similar issue where the app won't launch. It's the store app. Could be a bug?

I have tried both local and windows live login , but no avail .

However , I think , there is something with the display drivers . As soon as I ran Windows update , I was offered to update my ATI driver software from AMD . Also soon after I further installed the usual graphics driver from ATI using compatibility mode . But , when I suspected that there is something wrong with my old driver software and Windows 8 metro apps as suggested by some forums , I uninstalled it and , my screensavers which usually requires ATI graphics drivers ran smoothly; which suggests that my driver software has installed successfully .

However , may be , I should mention the way I installed Windows 8 . I had Windows 7 installed in my laptop and it ran smoothly , and since I wanted to preserve old software downloads , I moved them from C drive to other drives and them overwrite the content of C drive entirely . May be there is some gotcha out there . May be a whole formatting of my entire laptop would do me *some benefit.

Then remove the ATI drivers you install using compatibility mode and install the one from Windows update. I read somewhere ATI is actually pushing drivers through Windows update so you should be good. I'm using ATI myself and I'm running drivers through Windows update.

Well , I have already done that .

I think I have to do a clean install ; after all its a developer preview .

One more note. When I changed the "Metro Background Color" with the program in this Tutorial:

Start and Logon Metro Screen - Change Background Color and Image

I found some of the Metro apps did not work properly. The "Metro Background Image" change did not affect any Metro Apps. I couldn't get the Weather App to work after changing the Background Color so I did a reset, with the application in the Tutorial, and all is working again. I then replaced the Image, again with the application in the Tutorial, and all still works.
