    Brand new install of 8 is acting buggy

    Hi All
    I just completed a brand new build and then installed Windows 8 64 bit on the brand new PC. It installed without problems and boots up ok. But while in windows, I am experiencing odd problesm that just should not be happening on a clean system. The screen will go black for a few moments on occasion, then the no video input message comes up, then after a few moments the screen will come back. Happens randomly. Also, the system will freeze - either for a few moments and then come back, or it will feeeze completely and i have to force power down with power switch. Also, I was online and trying to download and the system was stuttering - I could literally hear the hard drive make a stuttering noise. And my progress bar on screen would pause for split seconds at a time. Very strange.

    I have not yet installed any software, but the Nivida software automaticaly installed when windows was setting up. Could it possibly be the Nvidia crap causing the issue or do you think maybe something else? COuld it be hardware related? Here are the specs of my new build:

    Asus P8Z77-V Mobo
    Intel i5 3570K unlocked CPU
    Xigmatek Durin D982 heatsink/fan for CPU
    Asus video card - GeForce GT 640 (2GB DDR3)
    16 GB RAM, Crucial Ballistix, DDR3 1600 (2x8GB)
    CoolerMaster Silent Pro M 850w PSU
    Toshiba 500 GB HDD 7200RPM SATA 6.0 gb/s
    Asus DVD optical drive, SATA
    2 case fans

    Any ideas would be appreciated!!

    hi, for starters i would get the latest video driver from the makers web site ,and i would do a scan of the hard drive with a utility from there site,

    get hdd utility on this site ,scroll down to Toshiba / Fujitsu ,
    Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

    Windows 7 Pro plus Windows 8.1 Pro VM


    I'm having a similar problem on a new build with a GTX 560.
    The screen goes black then comes back after a couple of seconds.
    The accompanying message reads "Nvidia display driver has stopped responding and has recovered"
    Seems to be a common problem based on Google results....

    Anyway I'm trying this at the moment as a lot of people seem to have had success with it ...

    If this doesn't work I'm sending it in to be fixed before the warranty runs out.

    Had the same problem as DaddyG with my gt550 card and went back to older driver (314.something) from the latest on the Nvidea site, no problems since. Whatever, it works. I'll use your suggestion in the link too and update to newest drivers and see if it stays stable. Thanks.

    thanks for the input. I was suspicious of the Nvidia software so I took that graphics card out entirely and am using onboard graphics. Then uninstalled the nvidia software entirely.

    Its still doing it....
