Just recently gotten a new Desktop with Windows 8 pre-installed. I've seen various screenshots and such and tried to google the answer myself but haven't had much luck. When I go to my search (Where you can view apps, settings, files, and such) the settings and files are Entirely blank. Apps seem fine but there's not a single thing in either settings or files. Is this messed up or do I have to manually change something?Any help would be appreciated, thanks! :D

That's strange. If I search for something, like the . or a, they come up. Otherwise, just going to files/settings it stays a black/blank screen. Is that normal then? Do I need to enable something to view the settings/files without searching?

Well, it's normal, this is search. If you search for something, you get results. If you don't search, you get blanks :)

Please mark the thread is solved if it answers your question.

Thanks very much. I feel sorta stupid now, haha. Is there any place to actually see all the settings/files without having to search for them, then?

Right click on the empty place at Metro screen, in the bottom right corner you'll see "All apps" button, left click on it and the truth shalt be revealed, (or all the apps anyway).

What's the point? :) Search for what you need, and that's it.

You can see all your files in File Explorer, the way you put them in folders. Also, I've already shown you the search query that displays all indexed files: *.*

As for the settings, see
  • Charms Bar - Settings - Change PC Settings
  • Win+R - control - ok
