where do i find the control panel? i know, sounds like a silly question. but i really don't know where anything is in windows 8. i did finally find favorites, now i just need to try to figure out how to get a link in it and a shortcut on the desktop. that way i can go right to a website i go to everyday.

Right click on Desktop / Personalize / up in the top left part you have "Control panel Home". User accounts and Family Safety / User Accounts.

for most things in win8 mouse over the lower left corner and right click to bring up the list .
not sure why you want a link to favorites on the desktop ,you would open internet explorer and open the favorites to use them .

also if you right click on the start screen you will get a show all apps everyting is there .
also if you right click on some /most start screen icons you will get an option to pin to desktop taskbar.

also check the link in my signature for win8 tips

is there a website where i can go for live support where i can chat with a tech who can connect with my computer and check for problems? i ask because no matter what i do, even though i write down everything i do step by step, i still cannot get into my email. it will not accept my password, even though my password is correct. i've given up for the night and will try again tomorrow. i'm going to print very bit of information you guys have given here so i'l have it.

and as for Geek Squad ,unless you live in a remote area ,there must be a neighborhood computer geek near you can come to you and help solve the problem

Hmmm, good idea about remote desktop connecting... I was just talking to someone about that today.

If anyone wants to volunteer, it would be a GREAT idea to use TeamViewer to remote desktop to commander's PC while doing sending personal messages back and forth here on the site. That would make things a lot easier.

Where you live there should be a Community Service Board.
or a Dept. of social services.

    I'm on SSDI.Total disability.
My Community Service Board & Dept. of Social Services help people with special needs.
They even have a group for older people that helps them with computer stuff.
There is a major university here too with a civic minded group(s) that assist in the area.

I have to write things down or I'll forget them.
    I take 5 different medications.
Sometimes I can't remember if I took them or not.

My point is, there should be some kind of resources in your area to help you out with stuff.
