Hey guys so recently after getting hacked on a few of my accounts I decided to strengthen up security and installed a free antivirus by the name of Avast. I also downloaded Ccleaner and malware bytes for quick scans to get rid of any viruses I may have had.
Malware bytes found a few dangerous files and I removed all of them. I started up avast and scanned with that as well, after 45 minutes or so it restarted my computer automatically and Before it fully started up again avast was performing a more in depth scan. It was searching files in my C:/ I think. Anyways this procedure was taking an incredibly long time and after being stuck at 20% for 1 hour I decided to skip this procedure and pressed ESC.

After I did this however windows 8 started acting a bit weird. I restarted my computer and on the user select screen ( 2 accounts my main, and an "other" account) it would keep reloading again and again every second. I can't click anything fast enough before it reloads so in essentially stuck on this page until I restart my computer. After 1 restart, sometimes 2-3 it gets better. Than comes my next problem. It occurs sometimes right on log in and sometimes a bit after. My screen is blue. Completely. Blue as in the color of the theme I have chosen. I can open up task manager but that's about all. It's completely blue which means I can't click on anything or do anything. So I try logging out, and I go back to the user select screen in which the first problem occurs again. After a few restarts I'm able to use my computer for a while without any troubles but I don't want this problem to persist.

EDIT : Screen is black not blue.
EDIT 2 : Restarting computer is no longer fixing the problem temporarily. Either stuck on black screen or Flashing user select screen.

Anyone know anything about this? If you don't quite get my problem I can try sending you a video of what happens.
Thanks again!

Based on the issues you describe, to me, I would just wipe the machine and reinstall the OS. Sounds like whatever happened to you was pretty nasty so I wouldn't feel comfortable continuing to use the OS as is. If you have a backup (prior to the hacks), just wipe the system and use it.

That said, I'm no security expert, so I'm sure some of my more learned colleagues may have better suggestions for dealing with the OS as is.

Alright I was actually thinking of just resetting my computer to factory settings. Problem is I can't get it in safe mode. Tried the shift + F8 thing, seems just not to be working for me :/.
I think that's the only way to reset right? Is there another way to wipe your computer?

You should have instruction on how to do this. If not you could find them on the manufacture's website. I know my Asus notebook came with specific instruction on how to do a factory reset, for me it starts with F9 during boot up. However, your may be different, so I AM NOT saying F9 will work for you. This is where you need to look at your instructions for the PC.

The other way is to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS using these... but you will need an installation disk - http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

With that, rather than guess, I'll just defer to those with more experience here.

Good luck.

I encountered the same problem you are describing on one of my client's laptops. After doing a lot of google searches, I learned that the problem was being caused by Avast. Evidently some sort of issue with the latest update to Avast and Windows 8. It doesn't affect everyone but it is affecting a lot of people. Anyway, once I uninstalled Avast the problem went away. You will need to get into safe mode to do this. You will need to use a Win 8 repair disc or flash drive so you can get to a command prompt. Once you do that, you need to change the prompt to your C: drive (assuming that is where you have windows installed) and then type the following command: bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy After you do that, restart the computer and now you can press the F8 key to access the menu that allows you to boot to safe mode. Once in safe mode, uninstall Avast and then you should be able to reboot normally. These are the exact steps I took on my client's laptop and it got rid of the problem. Good luck! PS - if you do not have a Windows 8 repair cd/flash drive, you can use another Windows 8 pc to make one. You just need to make sure it is the same version if Windows 8 (32bit or 64bit).
