Earlier today there was an update for windows 8. I clicked to restart/update my computer. After the restart, my start menu popped up and immediately crashed. Afterwards, I was unable to start my computer, It was stuck on a light blue screen and would not show me anything it looked like this: LightBlueBackgroundBMP.jpg

I ran the repair tool from my windows 8 disk, but it got stuck on the same thing for about 6 hours. I decided to shut down my computer and when I tried to turn it back on, it said I was missing some boot files

I reinstalled windows and it told me old files would be moved to windows.old folder as usual. However, there are no files in the folder and my hard drive says it is still using all the space from before. All that's left in my windows.old folder is some folders that have javascript files in them. Is there any way to recover my old files?

Was it a full re-install or an In-Place install Either way it should have saved the files in the Windows.old/Users folder. You mean you are missing most of the stuff in that TB Hard drive? It may be in it's original folders- If you had the stuff saved in folders that were not in the USER directory
