I have purchased a new computer a month ago with win8 on it. I have had a few updates and they all installed successfuly, but not yesterday.

I restarted my computer and the update was downloading like normal. Then at around 85% the computer performed a reboot. And now I am stuck with a screen that says:

"Configuring windows update has failed. Restoring system changes. Don't shut down your computer".

My windows isn't english so this translation may not be 100% correct. I have left the computer at this state for 4 hours already and it's still stuck. I tried to boot in safe mode but It doesnt work, and I put the win8 disc I got in, and nothing happens. I can't access anything. It's just stuck at the screen eternaly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got the windows cd to work. I first wanted to do a system restore, but apparently no saved states were made, so the only option left was system refresh. It said I won't lose any files but after successfuly booting into windows everything is gone. I am just left with a file that lists everything that was deleted.

Is there any way to get the files back? And like I said system restore doesn't work. Also on another note, it seems that there are no new updates to download, so I guess the update was successful?

I have just found a Windows.old directory on my computer. Everything missing is there but I don't know how to restore it. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
