    Preparing Automatic repair stuck

When I turn my windows 8 pc on it shows the Windows icon with the little thing swirling around it, however if I click go to set up it sends me to the same page but says preparing automatic repair. This page has been up for over 2 hours with no progress, any support? When I try to boot off a disc it does the same thing just comes to the black screen with the light blue colored windows icon and shows it loading but makes no progress.

What disc? Installation or repair disc?

Sounds like a hardware problem. So if you want anything better than wild guesses, you should post your system specs.

I was getting this same thing, your hard drive may have developed errors. If you have an install disk try to get into the Command prompt, its buried deep in the advanced options, from there do a full CHKDSK. Before you do that even, you should use GWscan to check it for read element failure, which that program can fix as long as there are not too many bad areas. If you at any time cancelled an Automatic Repair, like maybe you stopped it the first time, and then tried to reboot? I guarantee you it messed up your hard drive. I always say run GWscan first, because Windows 8 Auto Repair cannot repair those kinds of errors. Once you check for read element failure, run CHKDSK from the Install disk command prompt. THEN you can try to boot normally, it should then run the Auto Repair full cycle.

There may be other issues preventing boot, but I always start from the assumption that Windows 8 had fouled up my drive, which is has several times in the past. 9 out of 10 boot problems I have had were all basically read element failure that after I repaired, the OS worked perfect.

It sounds like it really needs to do the Auto Repair, but it also sounds like your system decided to do FULL chkdsk first. Which in Windows 8 can take over 2 hours. That's why I do it from a Hiren's Boot Disk once a month, that way Windows 8 does not arbitrarily decide to run a full CHKDSK when I need it to reboot and come up within 15 minutes.

It's pretty good, ive used it on all kinds of hard drives. If it detects your drive, it will work. Western Digital has incorporated it into their lastest WD DIAG.

Seagate has a different program, but it does basically the same thing.
