Is Windows 8 + Wiimote the perfect HTPC setup?

Think about it. Windows 8 has a nice clean interface that is very touch-friendly, which makes it incredibly easy to use with a wii remote. It also is not locked down at all - it can do virtually ANYTHING your current pc can do (though you might prefer to only use the apps that are ported over to metro)

All you need is the driver, bluetooth, and a couple ir emitters. And maybe a wireless keyboard.

    thoughts?

What about Kinect? It's actually far superior; just I forgot about it.

Yes it is! I have written an application which allows you to use your Wiimote as a touch device, and it feels like Windows 8 was made for this!

Find it free and open source at Touchmote.net !

A big part of it is from other open source projects, but none has ever made the pointer be used as touch control. It also includes the drivers and bluetooth syncing.

Wow! Too bad I don't have a Wii (or Wiimote) so I can test it.

    Aww I sold my HTPC

But thank you! I've been asking for this for a while!

How well do the edge gestures work?

The only things you need is a Wii Remote and a Wireless Sensor Bar, I got both of those for under $45

The edge guestures works very well! I have specifically programmed the app to handle these guestures well. It might be tricky to do it the first time but when you get it its flawless.

Now I really wish I had my HTPC! I was looking forward to doing this for a long time!

Does it work as a primary input? Or do you find yourself reaching for a mouse?

Anyone use Windows 8 as a HTPC? what's your input setup?
I use a Logitech k400 Wireless keyboard with a built in trackpad. It's great in theory, but the implementation has a few flaws: The keys are small, and the trackpad is worthless, especially with Windows 8. I've been trying to find an alternative, but the only one I found is using apple inputsw...

for HTPC navigation: Kinect or Wiimote?
Personally I think that the metro interface is actually fairly useable as a 10-foot interface, except the mouse doesn't translate the best. What I was thinking was to either use either a kinect or a wiimote hooked up by BT to navigate around (once the required software is available) Kinect:...
