Check cable connection.. ! PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM

Hi there. I am running an Asus X55U NOTEBOOK with Windows 8 64 preinstalled. It is one month old. I had it connected to my t.v. last evening via the VGA connector. When I disconnected the connector a blue screen appeared and it stalled out. I restarted the laptop after a couple of hours and it read "Check cable connection... PXE-MOF...Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device...insert boot disk and press any key.

I followed the directions to disconnect battery, power cord, etc., and I held the power button down for 1 minute. I also reconnected the internal hard disk to make sure it hadn't slipped. I then opened the start up utility to check my boot options but my internal hard disk doesn't appear as an option. It isn't detected in the main menu either. I tried to restore the defaults but that did nothing either. Now when I boot it up it goes straight to the Aptio Setup Utility.

Is this a software problem or a hard disk problem? Since my notebook came with win8 preinstalled, I can't reinstall. In fact, I am not seeing a product key listed anywhere on the device either.

I've just got my Asus K55A back from warranty repair because of this problem, if it's the same message. If you look for a thread here named Notebook cant boot started by me you'll see the screen I got and also what happened.
Good luck, I got my Notebook back within a week with a new motherboard in it.
