Hi Tpm1001, welcome to the Eight Forums.

To create a new file with Notepad with other than .txt extension:

  • Select Save As in Notepad File menu
  • In File name, type the name and extension you want to
  • In Save as type, select All Files from the drop down list

To change a file extension in File Explorer:

  • Browse to folder where your file is located
  • Select the View tab
  • Enable showing file name extensions
  • Right click the file, select Rename, change extension as you wish
