Tip for rotating screens even on Non Touch PC's

Not sure if it's commonly known but a nice easy way to rotate the screen in Windows 8 is press CTRL+ALT+Arrow keys -- found this quite useful sometimes when messing around in Photoshop

Don't you need to have certain graphics card drivers installed to do that nowadays? I can't on my PC and haven't ever been able to on other PCs, usually unless if they have the graphics driver software installed.

it's not working on my PCs. probably has to do with your software installed.

I have understood it only works on certain nVidia cards.

Well, I'll be. I know a lot of shortcut keys, but I never heard of this one. It works on my machine. At least on my 7 side. I'll check my 8 shortly.

It works fine on my laptop -- and I'm just using the Bog standard built in Intel HD graphics 3000. (Acer V105 laptop).

It also works on a desktop with a bog standard ASUS MOBO with built in Graphics card.

Try it again it's CTRL+ALT+the correct Arrow key.

Mine is onboard graphics as well. Does it need a supporting monitor I wonder?

Some PCs have Hotkeys disabled for screen orientation. It should work on all PCs but on some graphic cards, you have to manually enable and create keystrokes.

that only gives you Landscape or portrait.

What I'm saying is by using the ARROW keys you get 90 degrees each arrow -- so 4 orientations. left, right, top and bottom.

It works all the way around on my 7. I need to install the correct driver for 8. I hope there is one. A must to view blueprints.

It is an nVidia & Intel GFX thing, does not work on ATI cards. See for instance this: windows xp - How do you enable the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow commands for monitor rotation? - Super User

OK stand corrected -- but if you HAVE the correct hardware it works well -- a lot of laptops have the INTEL video set so they should work.
