How is everyone shutting down or restarting. The only way I see is to log off then shut down from there, am I missing something. I've had to add them to the desktop context menu because I cant find them lol

Thanks mate that was nicely hidden, quicker with the desktop context menu additions, but at least I know where it is.

Another option to the above which I use, is to create a batch file on the desktop. I have 2 batch files, one for restarting the computer and one for shutting it down.

For creating the files..

Open notepad (Windows Key & R) then type in notepad in the requester

For shutdown bat copy and paste the following:

Code:
[FONT=Courier New][FONT=Courier New]@Echo on
shutdown -f -s -t 3[/FONT][/FONT]

For a restart bat copy and paste the following:

Code:
[FONT=Courier New]@Echo on
shutdown -f -r -t 3[/FONT]

Then choose to "Save type as - All Files"
Then save as Shutdown.bat or Restart.bat

I would remove the '-t 3' from the code but overall the above is a good Option. Made it real hard to shutdown on this Windows

I did think about leaving the /t switch out but I thought it may surprise the user if the PC shutdown immediately without the couple of seconds delay!

Cheers.

I suppose but it is just me personally I want my computer to shutdown when I tell it to ;) Plus the fact if you add a time onto it you will get a pop up when you run it which I find annoying (On windows 7 you do , haven't tried it on 8) ;)

It also holds true for 8 too, but the pop up soon disappears on restart/shutdown. Must admit though, I havnt tried it without the switch! :sarc:

One could also create a shortcut on the desktop (Create new shortcut -- Location -- C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe /s /t 0) then you can customize the icon (there's one just like KDE!). For reboot use C:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /r t 0)
