Firstly apologies for the delay in replying zi have had some problems to deal with...Regards your question re playing with the registry....NO i know what I am doing in the registryand the last thing one should do is as you say play with it. I use a good registry cleaner for dealing with unwanted files....I personally changed the colours but wasn't happy with them and forgot to note the original set up Duh!! I was therefore wondering if there was a process to reset the colours to the default ones. I couldn't see this option anywhere hence my question.

I appreciate the help and I am extremely new to windows 8. In addition to the previous I have suffered from chronic bi-polar disorder since a young man (Now nearly 71) and at times what I have left as a brain deserts me.

I referred to the registry because it is the way Microsoft has set things up now.
By "playing" I meant "making changes to" registry entries.
I phrased it poorly.

I understand your suffering.(I have my own lifelong afflictions. I'm rather old myself, too.)

If you could get on a computer where the original settings have not been changed, you could write them down & fix yours. :)

Thanks my friend that is an excellent suggestion, I hadn't even thought of. I will find a friend and copy as you say, I nearly always put original settings down before changing anything of course trhe time you don't is when you need it...thanks again for the excellent suggestion. Hope you keep well I will consider the problem solved.

I very little experience with Windows 8. Just wondering if you went to Control Panel>Personalization would you be able to change what you need?

Before changing settings in 8, hold Winkey down and press Print Screen once.
When needed for reference go to Pictures\Screenshots. (can rename to your liking)

THanks for your response.you can indeed alter the colours from cp but there is no default as I can see, however Medab1 had a good idea and pcRat for any future changing...I always note these tips on both hard drive and hard copy. Thanks for your tips and assistance.
