Windows 8 does not allow wake timers?

Got my first Windows 8 convertible tablet, running an Intel Clover Trail processor.

Now in Windows 7, I've previously used a simple task ("Morning Alarm") wake me up in the mornings. At 6:50AM daily, run "wmplayer.exe" "Mysong.mp3", with the parameter "Wake the computer to run this task". I'd adjust power options to ENABLE wake timers. Everything worked.

I'd figure I'd do the same thing in Windows 8. Made the task, tested it, no dice. Slept through my first class. :(

Go into power options -- there is no option for me to allow wake timers.

  1. Is there any way for me to allow wake timers?
  2. If not, is there anyway for me to have a morning alarm on my computer? I've downloaded a couple apps, and they don't work, presumably because they rely on wake timers...

EDIT: I should add that I'm letting my computer go to sleep during the night, with the expectation that it will wake itself up and play music in the morning.

Hello apasserby. Welcome to Eight Forums.

I don't know if what you need is not on your version.
Wake timers are available on 8 pro.

There are some interesting registry settings available here for users of the Windows 8 (base/home) edition.
The policy editor and other MMC snap ins are also not available in the base edition.

Tablet still won't wake itself

Suspect (though not sure) that it's an issue with Sleep vs. Connected Standby. My tablet has the same issue - which I'm still trying to find an answer for. The tablet doesn't support Sleep States S1 thru S3. Rather, it supports Connected Standby, which sounds a lot like sleep, but it isn't. Essentially, the Sleep line-item (along with Enable Wake Timers") simply isn't available in the Power Options dialog. So far, I haven't found any work-around. :(
