Hi there,

I've just updated my laptop OS from windows 7 to 8 (clean installation) and now I can't go full screen on my external monitor, which is connected via HDMI (23' 1920 x 1080).

I'm looking forward for some help.
Thanks in advance.

In Device Manager, under Monitors: it probably uses a generic monitor. You might need to install the driver for your monitor from the monitor manufacturer.

Another problem is maybe the built in Video does not support the resolution that high

You nay want to open Device Manager and see if your Video Card is shown correctly. It just says "Standard VGA" you may have to install the latest video driver. Also, as mentioned, you may want to see if the external monitor is correctly listed.

That listing for your video card makes me think that's the Windows 8 installed Microsoft default driver. I would recommend that you go to the downloads section for your make and model laptop, and then download and install the manufacturers supplied driver for Windows 8.

EDIT: I've seen monitors listed as "Generic PNP Monitor" and still work at their correct resolution. If updating the Video card driver doesn't work then we'll think about looking for a driver (inf file) for the monitor.

I've installed both but the problem still exists.

Ok, I've managed to solve the problem. The solution was to run the driver supplied by the manufacturer in Windows 7 compatibility mod and then install the monitor driver. Simple, yet very tricky to remember.

Hope this will help someone in the future.
Thanks.
