Hi all,

I'm really hoping someone can help me with the two issue's I have below.

1. Forgotten admin password.

I have two accounts set up on windows 8, 1 with admin privileges and the other being standard. Unfortunately me being the idiotic prat I am sometimes I've forgotten the password to the admin account and I didn't make a password recovery disk.

I also don't have the disc to do a fresh install therefore what are my options as this is the only computer in the house.

That being said I set up a pin to log in but it doesn't give me that option.

2. Keyboard Issues

The second issues is very random, from time to time the keyboard layout goes haywire, when I press the keys I get many different options and I have to press Alt + A to get it working again.

I've searched the net for a resolve without any luck.

Is anyone able to assist.

Thanks all you support is appreciated.

Welcome

I assume your machine is not an OEM preinstalled Win8 machine. How did you do your installation in the first place?

On the first issue, get an install medium and do a clean install. See Clean Install - Windows 8 and Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade.

1. Do you have your product key? If yes, see Windows 8 Upgrade ISO - Download or Create.

2. Some will say find a genuine ISO, of the needed type and bitness, online; ensure that it has UEFI support (if you want to reinstall under UEFI--see the second half of Windows 8 Upgrade ISO - Download or Create); burn it to disc; and do a clean install. I'd do that if I believed that following such a procedure is EULA consistent and I was certain that I had found the real thing online. Not recommending, but see, for example, The Official Windows 8 Repository.

3. Or, you could buy MS system builder software (Win8 core or Win8 Pro (both 64 bit or 32 bit)), and install cleanly under the personal-use license. This software is transferrable provided that you never use it again, or make it possible for anyone else to try to use it, once transferred. It can be installed on one owned machine at a time. The hardware of the machine installed on can be changed any number of times and any number of ways. And, the software can be installed on owned machines (on at a time) as many times as wanted.

4. You also can clean install with retail upgrade software. Doing so might create a minor activation problem (see Clean Install with Windows 8 Upgrade). You would need to forego use the use of qualifying software having installed the upgrade software. You also could get an ISO using Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant - Download and Run using another appropriate machine. The ISO would provide you with the ability to do a clean install with what amounts to retail upgrade software. See above ISO related comments.

For now, on the second issue, try sfc /scannow to deal with possible corruption (may need to run multiple times--say 3--run at least until no corruption is shown). For now, don't shut your computer down. You may need to continue using your admin account. Hoping that is what you are using right now. A refresh may be necessary.

Refresh Your PC in Win8—Attempts to solve system problems by replacing system files without affecting user data files. Such files still should be backed up. Installed programs will have to be reinstalled except those from the Windows Store. A list of uninstalled programs is provided on desktop. Your personalization settings will be maintained. System settings will be set to defaults. A Windows.old folder will be created at C:. You can delete it once you have everything you want from it--Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 8.

Znod, thanks for your help but i'm in the same position. im locked out of the admin page so I can't install anything and the keyboard issue is still on-going as I don't have admin privileges to do a scan.

Is there anyway of doing a fresh install of windows from usb or rolling it back to windows 7 from a standard user page.
