Hi,

I am new to this forum and hope you may be able to help me with a problem with Windows 8 Pro backup.

As you would be aware this is called "Windows 7 File Recovery".

I have been using W8 Pro for about five months and running the backup utility for about four months with no major issues. I have used it to create a system image and scheduled to back up my data files weekly.

For the past two weeks I have been getting an error message "error code 0x80780049" along with a message that my files did not backup.

My backup is via esata to an external drive and as mentioned above this was working fine (I even tried a restore of a couple of files to prove it) but now it will not complete the backup. I even deleted the entire backup and started again from scratch but backup fails at about 50% completion. I have checked with windows defender and no viruses exist.

Any help would be appreciated otherwise I may revert to a W8 refresh but this will mean reloading my programs.

regards,

Harry..

You sound very knowlegable but I just have to ask these stupid questions:

Do you have adequate room on your external drive or could it be running low?
Has you RAM usage increased recently because of some newly introduced programs?
Is your pagefile set to auto-adjust or has it been manually configured?

Thanks for the response.

As I said I did delete the backup drive (500Gb) and started again, space is not an issue.

RAM usage is around 25% of 8 GB and Virtual Memory is running Auto under Windows control.

Really annoying as not much information as to why it does not complete.

regards,

Harry..

Sorry but I just had to ask. Just curious though, can you create a system image and target that same external drive for storage of same?

Well at least that works for you! So, I'm going to move on and make room for the "No Way Rodney" experts (see my signature). They should be along soon because they seem to follow me wherever I go (just joking of course). Anyway, good luck!
